Jayapal warns Biden’s support for Israel could cost him votes next year

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) suggested that President Joe Biden’s inaction in pressuring Israel to call off its war on Hamas as leftists have demanded could potentially come back to bite him in next year’s election.

The Progressive Caucus queen bee appeared on NBC’s Sunday morning flagship “Meet the Press” where she discussed the situation in Gaza as the Israelis have intensified aerial attacks in advance of the ground offensive to eliminate the terror organization responsible for the massacre of over 1,300 of its citizens and the White House’s reluctance to demand a ceasefire.

Biden is faced with grumbling among the anti-Semitic elements that have slithered into the Democratic party’s big tent, much of it coming from the mouthy collection of far-left lawmakers known as “The Squad” and according to Jayapal, the octogenarian leader risks alienating a portion of his own base if he doesn’t bow to the mob.

The host brought up concerns that Biden was losing support in Michigan, the home of Israel-hating bomb-thrower Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) whose district includes heavily Muslim Dearborn, and whether his “full-throated support” of the Jewish democracy will hurt him next November.

“That also came against the backdrop that Congressman Dean Phillips announcing he is running against President Biden, are you concerned that in a general election, both of these things could weaken President Biden’s chances?” Welker asked, referring to the Minnesota congressman’s surprise entry into the race.

“I have been one of President Biden’s biggest supporters,” Jayapal responded, bestowing praise on Biden’s ruinous domestic policies, as Welker again asked if he’d be weakened by his support for Israel.

“The president needs to be just as courageous on this issue so that we keep the unity within our country for the support of the incredible things he has done,” the far-left Democrat said. “He is, I think, you know, going to be challenged to explain an issue of this moral significance to people.”

The American people are actually quite far away from where the president and even Congress, the majority of Congress, has been on Israel and Gaza. They support the right for Israel to defend itself, to exist, but they do not support a war crime exchanged for another war crime. And I think the president has to be careful about that,” she added, parroting Hamas propaganda that Israel is guilty of war crimes.

“And I think the president has to be careful about that and I would call him because I know him well,” she continued. “I’ve had breakfast with him, I’ve had the honor of working with him, I would call him to bring us to a higher place.”

“I am certainly concerned about his approach to this,” she added. “The point is I want President Biden to be the next president, and he needs to call us to a higher moral place.”

The Seattle Democrat wasn’t coming from a higher place when she denounced Israel as a “racist state” at a left-wing political event in July a few days before Israeli President Isaac Herzog was scheduled to deliver a joint speech to Congress.

“I want you to know that we have been fighting to make it clear that Israel is a racist state,” Jayapal stated, “that the Palestinian people deserve self-determination and autonomy, that the dream of a two-state solution is slipping away from us…that it does not even feel possible.”
