JD Vance congratulates Marco Rubio as new host of ABC’s late night show and gets the internet rolling!

Democrats are showing more angst over “Crying” Jimmy Kimmel’s ouster than they ever did for the assassination of Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk.

On the other hand, Vice President JD Vance opted to have a little fun with the overdue development, and the internet was all for it.

ABC announced earlier this week that it would take Kimmel’s late-night show off the air indefinitely, after the reliable left-wing mouthpiece claimed Kirk’s alleged assassin, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was part of the “MAGA gang.” The false narrative was widely adopted, even though the left-wing gunman was in a gay relationship with a man who was reportedly transitioning into a woman.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel told his audience.

President Donald J. Trump said Kimmel was “fired because he had bad ratings more than anything else, and he said a horrible thing about a great gentleman known as Charlie Kirk.”

“You can call that free speech or not, he was fired for lack of talent,” Trump said.

Vance took to social media on Thursday to joke about Secretary of State Marco Rubio taking over for Kimmel as an additional job — Rubio was tapped to head up USAID before it was officially abolished, and he was appointed interim National Security Advisor after Mike Waltz was nominated to serve as United States ambassador to the United Nations. Rubio is also acting head of the National Archives and Records Administration.

The vice president posted, “Everyone please congratulate @marcorubio, the new host of ABC’s late night show!”

Rubio joked about his many jobs during a Cabinet meeting before Labor Day, saying: “This is the most meaningful Labor Day of my life as someone with four jobs.”

Vance’s joke really got social media users rolling, resulting in meme heaven for those with a sense of humor — here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
