Vice President JD Vance slammed the Senate for going on vacation after voting in the dead of night to pass Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding without money for immigration enforcement and not acting on voter ID.
The move sparked fury from Speaker Mike Johnson and Republican House lawmakers who balked at the capitulation to Democrats that omitted funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol, rejecting the bill and putting forth their own stopgap funding bill that now sits in limbo after senators blew town for a two-week Easter vacation.
Vance, a former GOP senator, sat down with Benny Johnson on the conservative influencer’s podcast and didn’t hold back when asked about the Thune-led Senate absconding from D.C. and the lame reason for not nuking the filibuster.
🚨 BREAKING: VP JD Vance EVISCERATES the Senate for going on vacation, says the filibuster must be nuked so the SAVE America Act can pass
He nailed it!
“It’s the DUMBEST political argument I have ever seen!”

“No, of course not. Of course not. We should at least, the very minimum product that we should get before anybody’s going on recess is, let’s reopen the Department of Homeland Security,” Vance told Johnson when asked about the Senate taking recess.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has refused to eliminate the filibuster, using a handful of RINO senators as cover for his inaction, and the vice president is fed up with the irresponsibility and excuses, especially the claim that doing away with the procedure would open the door for Democrat abuses. The left-wing party will itself nuke the filibuster the second that they regain control – they have already tried.
Vance ripped the GOP’s lame excuse as “the dumbest political argument I have ever seen,” singling out a duo of the main culprits who have obstructed progress.
“So, when Mitch McConnell and Lisa Murkowski say, ‘well, we need to protect the filibuster because the Democrats, they’re not going to do it. So, we shouldn’t do it either,’” he continued.
“The Democrats ruined the career of Kyrsten Sinema for not overruling the filibuster. They’re going to do it. So, we might as well do it now to enforce the protection of the American electoral system,” Vance said, referring to the stalled SAVE America Act.
The vice president said that he is prepared to cast the deciding vote if Thune grows a spine and nukes the filibuster to pass the bill.
🚨 JD VANCE just TORCHED the Senate RINOS for ditching DC on VACATION while DHS stays SHUT DOWN and the SAVE Act dies!
“I’m ready TODAY to cast the deciding vote, but we don’t have 50 senators with the guts to kill the filibuster!”

Despite a Republican majority, the upper chamber of Congress has been a non-factor when it comes to basic common sense legislation that would require photo identification to vote, despite overwhelming support from the American people, and Democrats are loving it.
“The Republicans should TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, and VOTE! Haven’t they had enough of this nonsense from the Radical Left Lunatics that are looking to destroy our Country?” President Donald J. Trump wrote in a Friday post to Truth Social.
