JD Vance’s shamrock socks steal the spotlight … and Trump’s attention

President Donald Trump admitted he found it hard to “focus” during a meeting with Ireland’s Prime Minister Micheál Martin.

The culprit behind the president’s distraction could be found on Vice President JD Vance’s feet. And Vance seemed to know ahead that Trump would notice his shamrock socks.

“I have to just speak of inflation,” Trump was saying to reporters before he veered off-topic Wednesday as he hosted the Irish prime minister.

“I love your socks,” Trump told Vance, pointing to his feet. “What’s with these socks?”

“I’m trying to stay focused, but I’m very impressed with the VP’s socks,” Trump added after laughter broke out in the room.

Vance stole the spotlight for the moment with his socks in a nod to the Irish guests and the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day holiday. Vance had discussed “sock diplomacy” in remarks at a St. Patrick’s Day breakfast with Martin.

“One of the things that we try to do with this breakfast is to remind people of the important bonds of friendship between the United States and Ireland,” Vance said.

“The president is a very big fan of conservative dress,” Vance continued, predicting that Trump would likely notice his shamrock socks.

Social media users found the sock scandal to be very entertaining.
