Jean-Pierre called out for ‘completely insane’ gaslighting: US ‘stronger economically than we have been in history’

While Democrats are known for creating their own reality, the Biden administration is taking this to a whole new level when it comes to an economy marked by 40-year high inflation, record gas prices, and ever-present supply chain issues.

But not to worry, according to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who said this week that the United States is “stronger economically than we have been in history.”

The remarkable claim came during Thursday’s White House press briefing during a joust with Fox News’ Peter Doocy, who questioned Jean-Pierre on polling showing that 88% of Americans say the country is “on the wrong track.” The president’s spokesperson countered by blaming the war in Ukraine and “Putin’s tax hike” for a dramatic rise in the cost of living, before saying Biden “has a plan” to deal with inflation.

“Do you think it’s possible that your plan just is not popular with the American people right now?” Doocy pressed.

“I don’t think it’s that our plan is not popular with the American people,” Jean-Pierre replied. “We know that the American people are feeling the high costs. We understand what they are feeling because when you look at inflation – when you look at where we are economically, and we are stronger economically than we have been in history, when you look at the unemployment numbers at 3.6%, when you look at the jobs numbers, more than 8.7 million new jobs created. That is important.”

Last month, Jean-Pierre claimed the economy “is in a better place than it has been historically,” before adding: “We feel, here at this administration and other experts as well, is that — we feel that we are in a good position to take on inflation.”

Matt Whitlock responded to additional footage of the exchange, tweeting: “Inflation has run ahead of wage growth ever since Congress passed Biden’s ‘American Rescue Plan’ last March, delivering a pay-cut to nearly every American. Assigning some BS phrase like ‘Putin’s tax hike’ to gaslight people is perhaps their most pathetic lie yet.”

Clearly, people are not buying the ambitious White House talking points. Here are but a few examples of the pushback, led by Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn:
