Jean-Pierre touts ‘historic economic boom’ amid record inflation, Dow plunge

Early indications strongly suggest that White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is not very good at her job, but the performance seen on Monday may be looked back upon in the days ahead as a low bar in her career as President Biden’s spokesperson.

With the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunging into a bear market, driven in large part by 40-year high inflation, record-high gas prices, and growing concerns about a recession, Jean-Pierre was talking about a “historic economic boom” and about how “well-positioned” the American people are to weather any economic challenges.

Asked by Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy to comment on all the stock market gains achieved under Biden being wiped out, Jean-Pierre insisted “Putin’s price hike, inflation, coming out of a once-in-a-generation global pandemic — all of those things play a factor.”

“We’re watching closely. We know families are concerned about inflation in the stock market. That is something that the president is really aware of,” she said. “And, you know — the way that we see this is that the American people are well-positioned to face these challenges because of the economic historic gains that we have made under this president in the last 16 months.”

When Doocy pressed on the impact the downturn is having on Americans, the press secretary replied, “‘We know that higher prices are having a real effect on people’s lives. We get that and we are incredibly focused on doing everything that we can to make sure that the economy is working.”

“We are coming out of the strongest job market in American history, and that matters,” she added. “And that — a lot of that is thanks to the American Rescue Plan, which only Democrats voted for that — Republicans did not — and it led to this economic boom, this historic economic boom that we’re seeing with jobs.”

The Fox News reporter shot back, “Didn’t it also lead to historic inflation?”

“No. That is not — that is not how we’re seeing the American Rescue Plan,” Jean-Pierre replied — the remark exposing how Democrats choose to see the world as they want it to be, as opposed to reality.

Of course, that answer is not true, as any reputable economist will tell you that printing trillions of dollars will lead to inflation and that the Biden administration was warned of this inevitability.

Here are some other lowlights from Jean-Pierre’s really bad day:
