Jesse Jackson Jr. swiped at the former Democratic presidents who thought it would be a good idea to politicize his father’s funeral.
Civil rights activist and Rainbow Coalition founder Jesse Jackson was honored in Chicago this weekend, where he was laid to rest after passing away last month at the age of 84, an iconic figure whose legacy was marked by his ability to put his stamp on the Democratic Party.
But instead of simply paying their respects, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Bill Clinton, as well as failed Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris, all devoted a portion of their speeches to promoting political rancor, including taking shots at President Donald J. Trump.
“Yesterday I listened for several hours of three United States presidents who do not know Jesse Jackson,” Jackson Jr. said on Saturday.

“He maintained a tense relationship with the political order, not because the presidents were white or black, but the demands of our message, the demands of speaking for the least of these – those who are disinherited, the damned, the dispossessed, the disrespected – demanded not Democratic or Republican solutions, but demanded a consistent, prophetic voice that at no point in time ever sold us out as people,” the reverend’s son continued.
“And it speaks volumes about who the Rev. Jesse Jackson was,” he said.
It definitely speaks volumes about the Democrats’ unhealthy obsession with Trump that the party’s past leaders couldn’t even holster their hatred for long enough to honor one of the left’s most revered figures of the last half century.
“Each day we wake up to some new assault on our Democratic institutions, another setback to the idea of the rule of law, an offense to common decency. Every day you wake up to things you just didn’t think were possible,” Obama declared, not mentioning Trump by name but leaving no doubt about who he was referring to.

“Everywhere we see greed and bigotry being celebrated, and bullying and mockery masquerading as strength.”

“Each day, we’re told by those in high office to fear each other and to turn on each other, and that some Americans count more than others, and that some don’t even count at all,” the former president added. “Everywhere we see greed and bigotry, being celebrated and bullying and mockery masquerading as strength.”
Biden told the mostly black crowd that the Trump administration does not share “any of the values that we have,” but it was yet another of his gaffes – and a very revealing one at that – that got the most attention.

Jackson Jr. didn’t mention Harris, the party’s 2024 and possible 2028 candidate, but the ex-veep also bitterly sniped at Trump during her remarks.

To his credit, Clinton refrained from the gratuitous Trump bashing that Obama and Biden engaged in, focusing on his relationship with the senior Jackson, who defended him during his impeachment.
“I wanted to begin by expressing a sadness that the passing of a person who was. I knew very well Jesse was a piece of work. He was a piece of work. But he was a good man. He was a real hero,” Trump said of Jackson after his passing was announced.
