Fitness star Jillian Michaels reflected on her political views and the journey of leaving the left for a more conservative ideology after realizing the news she had been “ingesting” was a “lie.”
“Honestly, it felt a bit like Neo in the Matrix at first because I really did think that, you know, when you’re on the left, like you’re the empathetic one, you’re the good guy, you’re the one that cares about people,” she told Dave Rubin on “The Rubin Report” podcast.
“Let’s start with you because you have a very similar political journey as I do,” Rubin said.

“You had a huge wake-up largely around COVID, and now you are amongst friends here in the free state of Florida,” he added to applause.
“Honestly, it felt a bit like Neo in the Matrix at first because I really did think that, you know, when you’re on the left, like you’re the empathetic one, you’re the good guy, you’re the one that cares about people,” Michaels replied.
“And I happened to marry a conservative who let me know that that wasn’t the case,” the 52-year-old fitness icon added. “We had very many fights early on in our relationship.”
“And then of course I started to watch the world invert, and all of a sudden you know up was down, right was left literally, and being obese became beautiful and healthy,” Michaels continued. “And then COVID happened and that was another crazy moment for me. And then I started learning that all the news I had been ingesting was a lie. COVID did not come from a bat in a wet market and it just — Russia, Russia, Russia wasn’t real.”
She spoke later in the podcast about how liberals believe the “right is evil: and what influences the thinking patterns.
“All the news they watch tells them that,” she said. “Everything they read, everything they see is ‘We are fascists, we are racists, we are Nazis. ‘Oh, you want voter ID? Because you’re racist.’”
She noted that what she believes finally “converts a person on the left, is when it comes for them … It comes for everyone. Let’s just hope it’s not too late.”
