Embarrassing moments for the former president continued as former First Lady Jill Biden’s book promotion ended with an awkward exchange between the couple: “…like you couldn’t ask it later?”
Following his “Weekend at Bernie’s” White House, former President Joe Biden served as a book tour prop Tuesday in New York City while his wife promoted her memoir, “View from the East Wing.” As a question and answer session moderated by Whoopi Goldberg was coming to a close, the president, known for his mental decline, was said to have “wandered up to the edge of the stage” to ask who Jill loves “most in the whole world.”
Before the event at the 92nd Street Y in New York City could wrap up, the New York Post reported that Biden approached the stage for a “cringe-inducing moment” where he began, “I have a question.”
“Joe has a question, like you couldn’t ask it later?” she said at a moment that was supposed to be about giving the president a standing ovation for his service to the country.
Undeterred, Biden asked, “Who do you love most in the whole world?” first earning the response from his wife, “Whoopi,” only for her to add as her husband “continued to stand and blankly face his wife, seemingly unhappy with her answer,” according to the Post, “I love you most, Joe. Was that it? Was that the answer he wanted?”
Instead of moving past the moment, the president carried on, “It’s overwhelming, isn’t it?”
“Overwhelming, well, that’s what keeps him on his toes,” commented the former first lady, who continued to talk about her husband in the third person, “he’s never 100% sure, I always keep him guessing, is that not true?”
That statement was said to have prompted Biden to lower his head and make the Sign of the Cross before Goldberg attempted to move on with a closing promotion for the memoir. However, she was thwarted when Biden interjected, “My book, which comes out in September, read it…”
“Do I have to remind him that this is my event?” asked Jill Biden before the president spoke up once more, “The only thing that Jill does better than write, she’s a beautiful woman.”
Tuesday’s incident comes amid backlash for the former first lady, who recently claimed it was her belief that during Biden’s campaign-ending 2024 debate with President Donald Trump, she thought her husband was “having a stroke.”
“I think Jill Biden must have had a stroke herself to think that her husband was up to the job,” a former Biden administration aide told the Post. “If she can sit back and listen to his constant drivel for over 4 years, she’s the one with real cognitive decline. The fake doctor may want to consider self-medication if it took this long to gain some self-realization.”

Meanwhile, she also addressed the career politician’s cancer treatment since the public announcement of his prostate cancer in May 2025.
“Joe’s here tonight. You see him. He looks handsome as ever,” the former first lady said. “But, you know, cancer drugs, cancer treatments have their consequences, and I think those consequences are pretty tough.”
