The looming threat of an Iranian attack on Israel saw American officials preparing for a Monday meeting with President Joe Biden in the Situation Room.
Since the Oct. 7, 2023 terror attack on the Jewish state by Hamas, attacks from terrorist proxies have escalated to actual missile strikes from Iran that were thwarted on April 13. Now, after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and the elimination of Hezbollah’s military commander Fuad Shukr, the president’s national security team is readying for an attack from the Islamist regime as early as Monday.
According to Biden’s schedule, ahead of his return to the White House to meet with his national security team in the afternoon, he was expected to speak with Jordanian King Abdullah II before leaving Wilmington, Delaware.
The meeting comes as Secretary of State Antony Blinken was reported to have told his G7 counterparts Sunday that Iran and Hezbollah could commence an attack within 24-48 hours as they discussed putting “last-minute diplomatic pressure” on the regime and its proxies, according to Axios.
Worth noting, little more than two weeks prior, Blinken said while speaking at the Aspen Security Forum that, “Instead of being at least a year away from having the breakout capacity of producing fissile material for a nuclear weapon, [Iran] is now probably one or two weeks away from doing that.”
He went on to note that they had not yet developed a weapon to use any such material.

A statement from the G7 ministers read, “We express our deep concern over the heightened level of tension in the Middle East which threatens to ignite a broader conflict in the region.”
“We urge all involved parties to refrain from perpetuating the current destructive cycle of retaliatory violence, to lower tensions and engage constructively towards de-escalation,” they went on. “No country or nation stands to gain from further escalation in the Middle East.”
Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin spoke with Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant to reiterate the United States’ support for Israel, and the Times of Israel indicated that Commander of U.S. Central Command General Michael E. Kurilla was expected to arrive in Israel Monday to coordinate with the Israel Defense Forces.
Before his own meeting with Gallant and Israel’s military and intelligence leaders, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “Iran and its minions are looking to surround us in a stranglehold of terrorism. We are determined to stand against them on every front and in every arena — near and far. Whoever seeks to harm us will pay a very heavy price.”
Fox News reported on a number of engagements between Israeli Defense Forces and threats that included the entry of “numerous suspicious aerial targets” from Lebanon that triggered the launch of multiple interceptors to ground the targets.
During a press briefing, IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari indicated that with troops in the Gaza Strip, Judea, and Samaria as well as Lebanon as a safeguard against attack, IDF forces continued to locate dozens of tunnels.
Additionally, an attack from a terrorist cell was said to have been thwarted when an aircraft eliminated the vehicle five suspects were in Saturday before another was said to have killed four terrorists who’d begun firing at IDF forces.
Afterward, a cache of firearms, ammunition, and military vests was located.

Sunday, two Israelis were killed and two others were injured in a stabbing attack in Holon.
“For years, Iran has been arming and financing terrorist organizations across the Middle East, including smuggling explosives into Israeli territory for terror attacks against civilians,” Hagari said. “The IDF and ISA (Israeli Securities Authority) have already thwarted numerous attacks in which Claymore-type explosives were smuggled into the country’s territory. We are determined to continue acting against Iranian terrorism wherever it may be.”
