Kamala begged Joe for swift endorsement after Dem coup, new book claims

Kamala Harris reportedly knew she had to act fast if she wanted to win the Oval Office.

On the same day Joe Biden was ousted from the 2024 presidential ticket, Harris reportedly begged the embattled U.S. president for an endorsement.

“You need to endorse me,” Harris pleaded with Biden just ahead of the official ticket switch-up, according to a new book, “Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House,” The Hill reported.

The Harris team reportedly knew there was no time to waste, and Biden’s endorsement would help scare off potential contenders.

“This is important for your legacy… to show that you have absolute faith in your VP,” Harris reportedly told Biden after he suggested waiting a few days. Harris allegedly argued that “too much daylight” would risk “mischief and confusion,” according to The Hill.

Top Democrats were reportedly at odds during this contentious time, with Nancy Pelosi and Barack and Michelle Obama wanting to keep Harris off the ballot.

Dem Rep. James Clyburn, however, backed a Harris bid and reportedly urged Obama to get on board with Harris.

“’Obama’s going to try to rope me into some kind of mini- primary,’ Clyburn thought. ‘It will be easier to fend him off if I’ve already endorsed Harris.’” an excerpt from the book read.

The conversation with Obama allegedly lasted less than a minute, but Clyburn apparently won him over, given this cringey exchange Americans were treated to a short time later:

“[Harris] knew that if Biden stepped aside without explicitly backing her, it would be taken as a statement that he lacked confidence in her ability to win or to do the job — or both,” according to the book, The Hill reported.

“That could mean crib death for a battle that she had not yet begun to fight. She also knew that a failure to throw his weight behind her would suggest that he had made the wrong decision in choosing her as his number two in the first place.”
