Kari Lake pours cold water on Trump running mate talk

Kari Lake downplayed any ideas about her being Donald Trump’s running mate in 2024, insisting that she was focused on serving as governor of Arizona as she continues to hold out hope that she will overturn the results of the Nov. 2022 election that saw now Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) prevail.

The former president reportedly is “strongly” considering Lake as he ponders his options for a running mate, according to Axios. The news outlet reported that Trump was looking at four women to help him gain support from white suburban women, with Axios describing the demographic as a “massive weakness” in his effort to defeat Joe Biden — the other three women are South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, Newly elected Arizona Gov. Sarah Huckabee, and former S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley.

Lake also edged out Gov. Ron DeSantis in a CPAC straw poll last week to be Trump’s running mate, getting 20 percent of the vote compared to 14% for the popular Florida governor.

“I am 100% dedicated to serving as Arizona Governor. I will also work to make sure President Trump gets back in the White House ASAP,” Lake told Daily Mail.com in a statement. “Anything outside of those two goals is nothing but a distraction.”

“My goal is to be in the Arizona Governor’s office,'” the statement continued. “I won the election and everyone in Arizona knows it. We The People deserve to have the leaders we elect hold the office we elect them to.”

While Lake insisted her “best days are ahead,” her election challenge to the Arizona gubernatorial outcome — Hobbs defeated her by a slim margin of 17,117 votes —  was rejected by an appeals court last month, the Daily Mail noted.

Lake has asked the state Supreme Court to review her challenge of election results and if that falls flat, there is talk that she may run for the U.S. Senate.

One thing is certain, Lake is a spirited supporter of Donald Trump and predicted “a turnaround like our wildest dreams could never imagine” in 2024.
