Republican strategist Karl Rove is sounding alarm bells on the potential consequences of the Texas GOP primary.
Currently, state Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Sen John Cornyn are duking it out for the latter’s seat, but Rove says that the seat may end up in the hands of the Democrats. He joined Fox News’s “Sunday Night in America,” where host Trey Gowdy asked about President Donald Trump’s lack of action in the Senate race.
Watch:
“No endorsement, least in my lifetime, has carried the weight of President Trump’s. Thus far, he is not waiting in the Senate primary in Texas, where you think that primary stands in your home state, and do you foresee the president getting involved, or kind of just watching and let it play out?” Gowdy asked Rove.
“Full disclosure, I’m a longtime friend of John Cornyn, the Republican incumbent. We’ve known each other since he was a district court judge, 30 some odd years ago in Bear County, in his early 30s. I’ve known him a long, long time,” Rove qualified. “I think the president will sit and watch. He understands it to be problematic if he were to endorse against a sitting Republican senator, particularly one as respected as John Cornyn. I think he also, and the White House staff has been clear about this, they understand that this race in the general election, if Cornyn is the Republican nominee, is a ‘gimmie’ for the Republicans.”
“And if his principal opponent, Attorney General Ken Paxton, will be the nominee, given the scandals and indictments and guilty pleas and girlfriends and mistresses and jobs, trading for mistresses for influence inside the attorney general’s office on issues important to corrupt indicted real estate guys, that’s not going to be a pleasant opportunity for Republicans to keep that seat. And we may, if Paxton were the nominee, see the first Democratic victory since 1994 statewide in Texas,” the strategist continued, making sure to bring up every possible skeleton in Paxton’s closet.
X users were not pleased by his analysis:
Karl “Three Chins” Rove was on Fox last night saying that if Paxton wins the primary and Rove’s captive Cornyn loses, Rs could lose to Dems in Nov. That’s the argument he used against Trump in 16 as he pushed for Jeb!, who was busy asking us to please clap.

The fact that Karl “Three Chins” Rove is promoting Cornyn & attacking Paxton inures to Paxton’s benefit. The Bush machine is dead in Texas, and that their lackey Rove is out breathing the last gasps of air of the dynasty just proves it.

If you don’t allow and bring on to your program GOP opponents to John Cornyn because of the slanderous statements you allowed (without challenge) the pompous Karl Rove say about Ken Paxton, you will lose any credibility you think you still have.
