Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich questioned how anyone can see the freebies being rolled out for illegal migrants landing in New York City and other areas as compassionate.
The Townhall editor joined “The Story with Martha MacCallum” Monday and spoke with the Fox News host about how a special “family fun day” was set up in New York City over the weekend where migrants were given everything from healthcare to free phones and food.

“Everybody can understand why people would want to leave other countries and come to this country, but I also think that there are a lot of people that are just wondering what the heck is going on,” MacCallum began the segment, bringing up the word ‘compassion.”
“Who is this compassionate to?” Pavlich responded.
“They say this is a free-for-all. Well, certainly none of the benefits that these illegal immigrants who crossed the border, broke the law to get into the country, this is not free for the American taxpayer. It’s not free for New Yorkers. Border states like Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, even California have been paying billions in healthcare and medical costs as a result of illegal immigration. Now they’re incentivizing it,” Pavlich asserted.
She went on to recount the reaction of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, who has exchanged tense words with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican who has been busing migrants who have crossed into Texas illegally to so-called sanctuary cities like New York and Washington, D.C.

Sunday’s “resource and family fun day,” organized by Lincoln Hospital in The Bronx, saw illegal migrants – some of whom had reportedly arrived on one of the Texas buses – line up for food, supplies, healthcare applications, and even forms of identification.

Pavlich pointed out that many of the migrants cite economic reasons for their dangerous journeys from their home countries to come to America where the Biden administration continues to welcome them with open arms.
MacCallum referred to those interviewed at the event who said they were coming for the free benefits and not for political or religious asylum reasons.
“Why wouldn’t you? And you’re going to be welcomed, people are going to shake your hand, they’re going to give you a bus ride and welcome you and give you stuff,” she said.
“You talk about magnets. What is the deterrent to not coming here illegally?” Pavlich wondered.
“Offering free incentives like free healthcare paid for by the taxpayers in New York City is one of those incentives,” she added.
“The final thing that I would like to say is that, you know, we talked a whole lot over the past two years about Covid and overwhelming of hospital systems. When you see hundreds, thousands of people lining outside of New York hospitals wanting free medical care, where is the conversation now about the long-term impact of these things?” Pavlich continued.
“The first question that we’re hearing is how do you house these people, how do you feed them? That’s very temporary. What about going to school? Where are they going to work?” she asked, bringing up the very legitimate questions Democrats sweep under the rug.
“This is — it comes down to who is this compassionate towards? Certainly not compassionate towards those in America who are just trying to make it and whose resources are being reallocated to people who came here breaking the law,” she contended.
MacCallum noted that about 700 healthcare applications were distributed at the event Sunday and those reportedly have to be reviewed before any coverage will be granted.
“You talked about the costs in Texas and Arizona in healthcare. If someone is sick and walks into an emergency room, they’re going to get cared for. So those costs are driven up whether there’s free health insurance or not, doesn’t matter,” she explained. “Those health costs for people who are impoverished are going to be taken care of. It’s going to be borne on the backs of the people who are already residents and taxpayers.”
