Kelly Clarkson raised eyebrows with her claim that she never saw the money and prizes she was promised after winning the first season of “American Idol.”
During a conversation with “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe and reality celeb Rob Rausch, the host of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” dropped a stunning revelation about her “American Idol” run in 2002.
Clarkson said she could “so relate” to Rausch’s claim that he still has not seen any of the $220,800 winnings from Season 4 of “The Traitors.”
LMAO Kelly exposing American Idol and FOX. The fact that she hasn’t forgotten that she didn’t get the car as a prize while Clay Aiken got one in Season 2 is sending me. 😂🤣 pic.twitter.com/6dVkPEq2kW

“You know what, I relate to this!” Clarkson said. “I relate to this so hardcore. You probably weren’t alive when I was on ‘American Idol,’ but I was literally on the show.”
“They were like, ‘Oh, you win a million dollars,’ or whatever,” she said. “No, you didn’t. They lied. It was like a million dollars’ worth of investment in you.”
“Wait, what?” Radcliffe reacted in surprise.
“Yes!” Clarkson emphasized.
“They said you get a car,” she continued. “And I needed it because my car was bashed in, and I couldn’t afford the deductible. And then, no! I did not get a car.”
“Clay Aiken, who didn’t win the second season, got a car — and [so did] his mom!” she added, referring to the show’s second-season runner-up, and getting a shocked response from her audience.
“I was like, ‘What the f–k!’” Clarkson recounted. “He’s like, ‘Yeah, they gave my mom one.’ I was like, ‘I’m gonna actually kick your ass right now.’”
“There should be some system where if you win something on the first season of something, whatever the prize has become, you should retroactively get that,” Radcliffe suggested as a way to compensate.
“No, it was supposed to be the prize then, OK? It was supposed to be the prize then!” Clarkson insisted.
“That’s why I’m saying — you might not see it,” Clarkson warned Rausch. “But, you know, I hope you got enough TV time.”
The Grammy-winning “breakaway” singer announced last month that, after seven seasons, she will be stepping away from her NBC daytime talk show.

Last year, she thanked fans on the 23rd anniversary of her “Idol” win.
“Winning ‘American Idol’ changed my life and I will be forever grateful for all of you that have supported me for so many years,” she wrote.
To everyone that took time 23 years ago to call in and vote for me, thank you 🙏 Winning American Idol changed my life and I will be forever grateful for all of you that have supported me for so many years. “It is a gift to find your purpose and passion, and to be able to make a living doing it is the cherry on top. Thank you, always,” she added.
