Democrat Senator John Fetterman has been ruffling his party’s feathers with common sense positions, and now a top Republican is calling for him to take the reigns of his wayward party.
“Listen to Fetterman. I mean, Fetterman should be the leader of the Democratic Party if they ever want to win the majority again,” McCarthy said Thursday evening in an interview with Fox News’s Laura Ingraham.
McCarthy’s comments came after Democrats on the Hill stunned America with a 145 votes going AGAINST a bill that would deport known sexual assault offenders who are in the U.S. illegally. Thankfully, the bill that was introduced by Republican Senator Nancy Mace passed, but not without a lot of backlash against extremist Dems.
“I would expect the Democrats to talk like this a year ago, before the election. Have they not heard what the voters have said?” McCarthy continued. “Remember, this isn’t throw everyone out who came here illegally who broke the law… You have to sexually assault somebody, and they still want to protect [them].”
Fetterman irked his leftist colleagues early this month when he said that he supported the deportation of criminal illegal aliens because its “common sense.”
“I have a lot of enormous respect for my colleague in the House, but I just happen to disagree on this. For me, just like my friend and colleague in the Senate, like it’s really common sense. I’d like to remind everybody that we have hundreds and hundreds of thousands of migrants here illegally that have [been] convicted of crimes,” Fetterman told Fox News host Bret Baier. “Now, if you’re here illegally and you’re committing crimes and those things, I don’t know why anybody thinks that it’s controversial that they all need to go.”
Exactly!
As for McCarthy’s proposition of Fetterman leading “out of touch” Dems, plenty of leftist X users sounded off:
No, but I understand what Fetterman is doing. Same as Pete Buttigieg, going into spaces to meet Rs half way (for votes). I admit redoing the Greenland deal is the right thing to do with all the ice melting in the north pole. Owning or leasing more land impedes Russia.

If Dems decide to start moving right…. I’ll be moving out of the voter booth…

This situation reflects the broader political discourse where individual politicians’ stances can influence party direction, voter perception, and the potential for bipartisan cooperation or conflict.

No thanks.

Those on the right side of the aisle, however, were more keen on McCarthy’s idea:
Kevin McCarthy is right, Democrats should take a page from John Fetterman’s book if they want to win elections.
Their radical policies are out of touch with everyday Americans and Fetterman’s down-to-earth approach might be their only hope.
But let’s be real, the Democratic…

He’s right. Fetterman is a leader for the Dems. I can’t believe I said that but it’s true. He’s a common sense democrat and those are rare.

Fetterman got a factory reset and lost all his leftist ideology.
Really, I think he’s just morphing because he doesn’t want to be voted out. Pennsylvania is Trump country.
