A reach across the aisle to “break bread” with Bill Maher had Kid Rock dishing on how “everybody’s mind was blown” after dining with President Donald Trump.

Months after Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski were razzed for a Mar-a-Lago summit with Trump, HBO funnyman Maher agreed to his own meetup with the commander-in-chief, foreshadowing the dinner as “kind of a Nixon to China thing.” The morning after, musician Robert James Ritchie, better known by his Kid Rock stage name, joined “Fox & Friends” to discuss how well things had gone.
“It was so pleasant.”
Speaking remotely to the Fox News co-hosts on the curvy couch, Ritchie reminded that it had been his idea to invite Maher to meet with the president over a dinner that included UFC president and CEO Dana White, “The president was gracious. He took us up to the private residence, we saw the Gettysburg Address in the Lincoln bedroom.”
“And I was like, you’ve never been here, Bill? I was like, how about this, President Trump extending this olive branch. And we talked about things we had in common, you know, ending wokeness … securing the border. The president was asking him what he thought about policy going on with Iran and Israel and things. It blew my mind. I was very proud,” said the entertainer who contended Maher had “been one of the president’s hardest critics.”
While he made note that “Everyone was so surprised. It was so pleasant,” he went on to reveal that the “most shocking thing” was that Maher’s contributions to Democratic Party politicians hadn’t earned him a tour around the White House sooner.
Prior to the White House gathering, Trump detailed how he was extending the invite as “a favor for a friend” after Ritchie asked him. “I really didn’t like the idea much, and don’t like it much now, but thought it would be interesting.”
“The problem is, no matter how much he likes your Favorite President, ME, he will publicly proclaim what a terrible guy I am, etc., very much like the Democrats at my recent Address to the Joint Session of Congress, where I stated, correctly, that no matter what I said or did, they wouldn’t stand, they wouldn’t applaud, they wouldn’t smile or laugh and, certainly, they wouldn’t be in any way ‘nice,'” the president suggested ahead of the dinner.

As it remains to be seen what the host of “Real Time” will say about the opportunity, co-host Lawrence Jones went on to ask Ritchie if he thought Maher walked away “liking” Trump.
To that, the musician replied, “100%. 100%. Me and Dana both said there has never been anyone who ever met the president who has walked away without saying, ‘wow, what a great guy. He’s so funny, so engaging, he’s so smart.’ Absolutely, Bill even said to me after that he goes wow, that was — everybody’s mind was kind of blown, even the president’s.”
“The president called me late last night. Everyone was a little suspect going into this,” he explained, including Trump, who he suggested had been, ” a little bit like, what have you got me doing. Man, we’re just trying to show people that even though we’ve been hard on each other, when you get face to face, maybe we can have more civility in this country and try to bring people together. That was my whole intention.”
