Sparks flew when NewsNation’s Leland Vittert and political pundit Medhi Hasan clashed over President Donald Trump’s crime crackdown.
Following the murder of a Capitol Hill intern and the severe beating of a former DOGE aide known as “Big Balls,” the president announced that he would be taking the next step in ensuring safety in the streets of Washington D.C. by deploying the National Guard. This move was publicly cheered by conservatives, but leftists aren’t quite as pleased by the decisive action.

While making an appearance on NewsNation’s On Balance, Hasan expressed skepticism that Trump truly cares about lowering crime rates in the city by citing the left’s favorite fallback: Jan 6.
“Trump cares about crime in D.C.? Really? Because I remember Donald Trump on Jan. 6, 2021 not giving a crap about crime in D.C.,” he snarked. Vittert pushed back on this lame attempt to deflect.
“We know the statistics on Jan. 6,” he said. “You’re gonna sit here and say, if Trump cures cancer, Jan. 6 was terrible. The fact is you can’t have an argument about what’s happening on the streets of D.C. without going back to Jan. 6.”
“If he cared about crime in D.C., why did he pardon 600 people who assaulted police officers?” Hasan retorted,
“Oh come on. This is silly,” Vittert said.
The two engaged in several minutes of crosstalk as each tried to get their point across, but what’s clear is the left’s inability to move past the events of Jan. 6, using it as a cudgel whenever they had to defend their distaste for the current administration. Trump will never be able to do anything right, in their eyes, because of the events of that day. As Vittert pointed out, the only person to die on January 6, 2021 was Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt, who was shot and killed by a Capitol Hill police officer.

Let them dwell on January 6 all they want, as once Trump cleans up DC the relevance and perceived importance of Jan 6 will further recede.
