Police are investigating the death of a man who allegedly bled to death after cutting off his own penis.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) received a call on Saturday regarding a man harming himself and responded to the intersection of Figueroa Street and Pico Boulevard in the early morning hours. A white tent was erected shortly after the arrival, signaling that a death had occurred, but authorities offered no other details at the time.
“According to a photographer with news stringer service OnSceneTV, the man died after he ‘cut his penis off and bled to death,’ but police officials did not elaborate on which part of the body the man suffered injuries to,” KTLA reported. “There was blood next to the clothing the man had been wearing, which was located a short distance away from where he was found.”
The man’s identity has yet to be released, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner could determine whether drugs or other intoxicants were involved in the disturbing incident.
