Legal expert Alan Dershowitz says Bragg could be disbarred if dares to put star witness on the stand

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is likely hoping that Monday will be a fresh start after the grand jury in his abusive prosecution of former President Donald J. Trump abruptly canceled deliberations for two days in a row last week, a blow to his efforts to indict the 2024 Republican frontrunner.

However, he may still be in for big trouble, at least according to constitutional law expert Alan Dershowitz who explained why the top NYC prosecutor could potentially end up being disbarred as a result of his high-stakes gamble.

Dershowitz, an acclaimed legal mind and former Harvard Law School professor appeared on Fox News where he discussed the latest developments in Bragg’s suddenly troubled case on “Sunday Morning Futures” with host Maria Bartiromo and broke down how the George Soros-backed Bragg is playing with fire and could be badly burned by star witness Michael Cohen, a convicted felon and “serial liar,” at least according to the disgraced former lawyer’s legal adviser, a key grand jury witness.

As Trump’s former lawyer and alleged facilitator of the “hush money” payment to pornographic movie star Stormy Daniels, Cohen is the lynchpin upon which Bragg’s entire case hangs. But if he moves forward to indict the ex-POTUS with Cohen as his top witness, the vindictive district attorney looking for his major score may instead be committing an act of career suicide, at least according to Dershowitz.

After being asked for his take on where he sees Bragg’s witch hunt going this week by Bartiromo, Dershowitz responded, “I don’t think an indictment can actually come forward now after the comments made by Costello,” he said, referring to Robert Costello whose his testimony last week laid out the problematic Cohen’s serious credibility problems, not the least of which was not telling the truth.

“He has proved that the main witness is gonna be a perjuring liar on the witness stand, and that puts the district attorney in a terrible position,” he continued. “If he uses Cohen as a witness, he could actually lose his bar license. It’s unethical to put a witness on the stand who you know is lying and he has to know that Cohen will be lying.”

“Or he tries the case without Cohen which is very difficult, or he does the right thing, he drops the case,” he said.

“There can be no doubt in anyone’s mind that Michael Cohen has great difficulty telling the truth,” Costello said of the star witness. “He is, after all a convicted perjurer, and our track record with Mr. Cohen convinced us that he was a serial liar.”

Costello also appeared on Fox News with host Tucker Carlson last Monday, laying out Cohen’s behavior and mental state as the walls were closing in on him in 2018 after the feds had raided his office.

“Now, what he’s saying is I’ll lie, cheat, steal, shoot somebody, I not spend a day in jail. Do you think a guy whose mentality is that is going to not admit that he has information on Donald Trump?” Costello asked.

Dershowitz later added, “maybe grand jurors would finally wake up and say ‘No, we’re not ham sandwiches here. We’re gonna stand up for the law and the law says you don’t indict under these circumstances.”
