Letitia James fires back with more lawfare on Trump

New York AG Letitia James joined 11 other states to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration on Wednesday, alleging the president violated the law by imposing global tariffs.

James recently made waves with a fiery tirade against allegations from the White House of mortgage fraud. “I’m not afraid of no president!” she railed after she was referred to the DOJ for prosecution.

Now, she’s coming after Trump again.

“The president does not have the power to raise taxes on a whim, but that’s exactly what President Trump has been doing with these tariffs,” James said in a statement.

“Donald Trump promised that he would lower prices and ease the cost of living, but these illegal tariffs will have the exact opposite effect on American families. His tariffs are unlawful, and if not stopped, they will lead to more inflation, unemployment, and economic damage.”

Trump stated that the White House can impose tariffs using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which allows the executive branch to investigate, restrict, prohibit, or regulate imports and exports with foreign nations in response to an “unusual or extraordinary threat.”

The fentanyl opioid crisis has been cited by the White House as a qualifying “national emergency,” The Hill reported.

Connecticut, Arizona, Oregon, Vermont, Colorado, Maine, Illinois, Delaware, Minnesota, Nevada, and New Mexico joined the lawsuit, arguing that the president needs approval from Congress to increase taxes on imports and exports, The Hill reported.

Folks on X weren’t surprised to see James attach herself to the latest lawsuit against the Trump administration:
