Citizen Liz Cheney may be a glutton for punishment, but RINOs and leftists alike were left wanting by her response of a potential third-party bid for the White House in 2024.

Getting censured and booted from her seat in the House of Representatives by the people of Wyoming evidently hadn’t convinced the former lawmaker to stay out of politics. Still, during a sit-down interview with Lester Hold of “NBC Nightly News” at the Aspen Ideas Festival Tuesday, Cheney appeared in touch enough with reality to know her entering the race would be a boon to former President Donald Trump.
“I’m not gonna do anything that helps Donald Trump, and I think that I’ll make a decision about what I do and what comes next later this year,” she told Holt in a non-committal fashion.
“I’m not announcing anything here today, Lester. But the way I’m thinking about where we are and what has to be done is much less about what should I do in terms of am I going to be a candidate or not and much more about stopping Donald Trump whatever that takes,” the politician added, indicating she’d be maintaining her swampy connections to work behind the scenes. “But also helping elect other good candidates down-ballot.”
Hinting at the basis of her logic regarding not taking on Trump directly, Cheney pointed to polling and said, “If you look at the polls [Trump] clearly is the frontrunner for the Republican nomination.”
In the past, the former president had shared survey results that showed how poorly the one-time representative would fair in a three-way contest that included President Joe Biden. Not only would Trump win, but more than three-quarters of the support for Cheney would shift to Biden were she to just sit out.
Still, she persisted with the elitist mentality that washed her out of the Equality State while she spoke at an event from New York City’s Upper East Side.
“Look, I think that the country right now faces hugely challenging and fundamentally important issues. What we’ve done in our politics is create a situation where we’re electing idiots,” Cheney declared.

There, too, she balked at a potential third-party ticket and said, “I don’t look at it through the lens of, you know, is this what I should do or what I shouldn’t do. I look at it through the lens of, how do we elect serious people. And I think electing serious people can’t be partisan.”
“Because of the situation that we’re in, where we have a major-party candidate who’s trying to unravel our democracy — and I don’t say that lightly — we have to think about, all right, what kinds of alliances are necessary to defeat him, and those are the alliances we’ve got to build across party lines,” Cheney remarked.
Having already wasted millions in playing part in the sham Jan. 6 committee, the politician claimed to Holt, “I feel very strongly about how important it is that we not let slip away what is so special and magnificent about this nation.”
She also suggested that a Trump primary victory would be the end of the GOP as it currently exists, “I think that nominating him…will result in the Republican Party splintering, as it should.”
Ultimately, as she reiterated her position that, “there’s simply no question that he’s unfit to be the president of the United States,”
Cheney said that even more than the economy, national security and foreign relations, which were all better under the previous administration, “The single most important issue is that Donald Trump never be anywhere near the Oval Office again.”
