Liz Cheney smears Trump-endorsed opponent who censured her following impeachment vote

Leading the effort up north to unseat reviled Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, an ostensible Republican, is Wyoming Republican Party chairman W. Frank Eathorne, a close Trump ally who’s positioned himself as Cheney’s veritable arch-nemesis.

In fact, Eathorne’s been leading the war against her ever since she voted to impeach then-President Donald J. Trump in January of 2021.

“After Cheney voted to impeach … Eathorne helped to orchestrate Cheney’s censure by the state GOP central committee,” according to a profile published in the Casper Star-Tribune.

This, incidentally, helped ingratiate him to Trump.

“Frank has censured the incompetent Liz Cheney! Frank has my complete and total endorsement for his reelection. He will never let you down!” the former president said in a statement after the censure vote three months later.

Eathorne has likewise been putting in work to boost the campaign of Harriet Hageman, the top candidate among five Republicans who’re running in the Wyoming primary election in August to knock Cheney out of her seat.

“Although state statute dictates that party leadership not take sides before the August Republican primary, Eathorne has arguably helped Hageman’s campaign by leading successful — although largely symbolic — state and national efforts to censure Cheney and expel her from the party,” the Star-Tribune reported.

“In his most recent push, at the February Republican National Committee meeting in Salt Lake City, Eathorne authored a resolution — which national delegates overwhelmingly approved — to censure Cheney and Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger and ‘cease any and all support of them as members of the Republican Party for their behavior.'”

But it gets better.

Earlier this year, Eathorne reportedly convinced the Republican National Committee to pass a special resolution naming Hageman the presumptive Republican nominee for the seat that Cheney’s desperate to keep.

This move, therefore, made it possible “for the national party to financially support Hageman ahead of the primary election against Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney,” as reported by WyoFile.

Cheney was extraordinarily displeased.

“Frank Eathorne and the Republican National Committee are trying to assert their will and take away the voice of the people of Wyoming before a single vote has even been cast,” her spokesperson said at the time.

Hageman meanwhile seemed to love every bit of it, especially when the RNC also censured both Cheney and her veritable soul brother, Rep. Adam Kinzinger:

Cheney’s response to all this has centered on attacking Eathorne with practically every accusation possible.

“Frank Eathorne is a member of the Oath Keepers. He was on the Capitol grounds during the violent attack on January 6. He has ignored the rulings of our courts. He has suggested Wyoming should consider secession from the United States,” she said in a statement to the Star-Tribune.

“His views and his actions make a mockery of the rule of law, the Constitution, and the values on which the Republican Party, the state of Wyoming, and our great nation were founded.”

But her many, many, many critics say SHE is the one making a mockery of the Republican Party with her wild, unsubstantiated accusations.

Like the stunning accusations seen below:

Posted following the mass shooting last weekend in Buffalo, New York, the tweet above by Cheney basically blamed the shooter’s actions on all of her GOP colleagues.

The tweet was not well-received.

Look below, and notice how often her critics mentioned Hageman:

As for Eathorne, just how close is he to former President Trump?

“When the former president decided to appear in Casper at an upcoming Memorial Day weekend rally for Cheney opponent Harriet Hageman, Eathorne said Trump called him personally with the news. Eathorne, a longtime Hageman friend and party ally, then informed the state central committee,” according to the Star-Tribune.

Cheney is known for hating Trump. If and when she loses her seat to Trump-backed Hageman, she’ll likely hate him even more …
