Maddow reportedly gets massive pay cut

MSNBC’s resident ‘Chicken Little’ is reportedly receiving a blow to her paycheck despite being the best the outlet has to offer.

Rachel Maddow was asked to take a pay cut of $5 million, dropping her eye-popping salary down from $30 million to $25 million. Maddow, who hosts her own show one night a week, renegotiated her lower pay as parent company Comcast continues to experience “a difficult time.”

“This is a difficult time and they needed to keep her,” an executive reportedly told The Ankler. “No one else can do what she does. You can’t build a brand like it overnight.”

It is worth noting that a source with knowledge of the pay cut is disputing the amount being reported, but would not give out any additional details.

Comcast’s plan to spin off some of its cable channels by 2025 has those at MSNBC in a panic. If the liberal news bastion were forced to separate itself from NBC News, it could be forced to undergo a facelift such as adopting a different name and logo, as well as finding a different location to establish headquarters. This would be a massive financial burden for the already strained network and may result in additional layoffs.

However, The Ankler reports that Maddow will still be given princess treatment at the network, as her new contract will allow her to continue hosting her show on Monday, and also produce documentaries and podcasts. They also claim that the host will be used as a “secret weapon” for other shows, for instance, if there is breaking news to report.

It remains to be seen if this is going to be a viable strategy moving forward, as MSNBC’s ratings continue to tank following the election of President-elect Donald Trump. One commentator allegedly told The Ankler that their fawning coverage of Vice President Kamala Harris was likely partly to blame for their ratings sinking by 54% since November 5.

“We were so Harris propaganda that when she lost, viewers were shocked,” the anonymous source said. “It turned into one giant circle j**k and echo chamber. If MSNBC wants to be of service to its viewers, they can’t keep them in fantasy land.”

While the future of MSNBC may be unclear, it’s certain that the higher-ups are putting all their chips in the Maddow basket.
