Madonna is being sued by two of her fans who decided to take the aging pop queen to court over her tardiness for a recent show on her “Celebration Tour” that started two hours later than its advertised time.
New York City residents Michael Fellows and Jonathan Hadden filed a class action lawsuit in federal court in Brooklyn stating that the Material Girl’s December 13, 2023 performance at the Barclays Center which was slated to begin at 8:30 p.m. didn’t start until Madonna took the stage around 10:30 p.m.
The class-action lawsuit accuses the sexy senior citizen, the Barclays Center, and Live Nation of “unconscionable, unfair, and/or deceptive trade practices,” Fox Business reported.
According to the suit, the pair of fans claim that they were “confronted with limited public transportation, limited ride-sharing, and/or increased public and private transportation costs,” as a result of the show which ended after midnight and that by the time they left the arena, they were “stranded” and had to work the next day.

The lawsuit says that the delayed start of Madonna’s show was a “breach of contract” as well as a “wanton exercise in false advertising, negligent misrepresentation, and unfair and deceptive trade practices.”
“Madonna had demonstrated flippant difficulty in ensuring a timely or complete performance, and Defendants were aware that any statement as to a start time for a show constituted, at best, optimistic speculation,” the filing states, noting that the superstar has a “long history of arriving and starting her concerts late,” including the other two shows at the Barclays Center on Dec. 14 and Dec. 16.
A source told People magazine cited “issues during soundcheck that caused the schedule to get delayed by an hour,” and when the December 13 show got underway, the 14,000 fans in attendance were treated to a rousing performance that “went off without a hitch as she sang a range of hits from her decades-spanning career,”
The 79-show tour which features elaborate set pieces and is saturated with standard sexual themes was postponed from its summer run as the star was fighting off a serious bacterial infection but kicked off the North American leg with the trio of shows at the Barclays Center.
According to a December 1, 2023 announcement on Madonna’s official website: “After months of anticipation and buzz, cultural trailblazer Madonna kicked off her massive The Celebration World Tour last month with six sold-out shows in London, at The O2. In a rare reflection of her unparalleled career, Madonna took the captivated audience on an emotional journey through some of her biggest hits, including songs she has not performed on stage in decades.”
“With nods to her beginnings as a struggling artist living in New York City, to her meteoric success, through personal and professional lows to spiritual awakening; the show captures Madonna’s past while looking to the future. Directed by long-time collaborator Jamie King and the musical direction of Stuart Price; songs included ‘Nothing Really Matters,’ ‘Open Your Heart,’ ‘Like A Prayer,’ ‘Into The Groove’ and ‘Crazy For You,’” the website states.
Madonna will be back in New York City with a trio of shows at Madison Square Garden starting next week that had to be rescheduled from August 2023.
