Mamdani supporters already having buyer’s remorse over Big Apple mayor’s ‘AOC-ification’

Some far-left supporters of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani are already experiencing buyer’s remorse that their socialist savior hasn’t been radical enough.

Since he took office in January, Gotham’s Democrat leader has failed to move fast enough to deliver on his campaign promises of freebies galore and not coming through for certain demographics, being heckled and shouted at by impatient leftists who only months ago were his biggest fans.

Those free buses that were a key pledge during his run for office have been rerouted into the future, his commitment to being anti-Israel has been questioned, and some are already branding him as a sellout, just like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), a champagne socialist drunk on her own celebrity.

“The radical left is so extreme, avowed socialist Zohran Mamdani is not revolutionary enough for them,” according to the New York Post. “The New York City mayor has been heckled at Gracie Mansion, shouted down at events, and slandered — not by people from the right, but those on his own side.”

“He’s also been accused, somewhat confusingly, of being pro-Israel and of not doing enough for trans people. Socialist congressional candidates have even taken to using him as a bogeyman to promote their even more radical agendas,” the paper noted.

Radical left-wing former Seattle City Council Member Kshama Sawant, who’s now running for Congress, is already contrasting herself with Hizzoner, whom she mockingly likens to AOC.

“The AOC-ification of Mamdani has taken place at lightning speed,” she wrote in a February social media post, mere weeks after the one-time “communist lunatic” was sworn in, with the rats wasting little time in jumping from the ship.

“There is only one way to break with this endless cycle of disappointment and betrayals from so-called ‘progressive’ and ‘socialist’ Democrats: breaking with both bloodstained parties of war and genocide,” Sawant added.

Sawant’s derisive term has been catching on and being echoed by leftists with each subsequent betrayal.

“The ‘AOCification of Zohran Mamdani’ is a phrase that’s going to live in my brain rent-free,” a user on Democrat echo chamber Bluesky commented.

The congressional hopeful also shared video from Workers Strike Back, a far-left activist group that accuses the new mayor of only delivering up  “a mind-boggling list of betrayals,” including his endorsement of Democrat New York Governor Kathy Hochul.

Another ardent leftist, anti-Amazon activist Christian Smalls, lamented Mamdani’s selling out of his voters in a post to X last month.

“Zohran is going to break ppls heart way more then AOC because he plays the fence so well one day he can sound like a leader of resistance the next a shill for Israel. I knew something was off the moment he said absolutely nothing while he knew I was in Prison in Israel,” he wrote.

Others have also been airing their grievances with the mayor over perceived betrayals.

“He could be speaking out, publicly shaming folks, finding resources to help,” whined a transgender Bluesky user before making his/her posts private. “He has one of the most powerful bully pulpits in politics. He is not using it to support us. It’s ok to be disappointed.”

In February, after it came out that Mamdani’s own mother once attended an event at the home of Jeffrey Epstein’s madame, Ghislaine Maxwell, a convicted sex trafficker, protesters showed up outside of Gracie Mansion with bullhorns.

“That’s right, we know about your mom,” one leftist shouted at the gates. “We was with you, Zohran, we voted for you, Zohran, we advocated for you, Zohran, we advocated for you. You ain’t do nothing but get up in there and lie to us!.. Shame! Shame! Shame!”

Mamdani has already moved the goalposts on the city-owned grocery stores, which were a key component of his appeal, recently announcing that five stores will be open by the end of his term in 2029, not much help for those who bought into his siren song of delivering affordability and immediate relief.

It certainly isn’t sitting well with leftists that Mamdani has warmed up to President Donald J. Trump since being elected, either.

As a New York Post columnist so eloquently put it: “It’s barely been 100 days since Mamdani was sworn into office, and already he is losing the left. As Jacques Mallet du Pan observed of the French Revolution in 1793: ‘The revolution devours its children.’”
