The radical left group, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), which backed New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s rise to power, angered striking nurses when it hijacked a union briefing for a lecture on how to thwart ICE and the NYPD.
In a shocking example of how deeply the left-wing rot has taken hold in America, the unsuspecting nurses at Mount Sinai Hospital were subjected to a two-hour and 18-minute session during which DSA representatives trashed ICE, baffling union members who were more concerned with hearing about the current strike’s impact on their jobs and benefits than being instructed on how to resist federal immigration and city law enforcement officers.
The New York Post obtained a recording of the presentation given to 1,600 nurses, who instead of learning how to survive the strike and their health insurance were treated to “radical ad hominem attacks” on “’roided up” ICE officers, told that New York’s finest are “not trustworthy” and that the department’s $14 billion budget was too high.

One source told the paper that “many were ‘disgusted” that the union leadership of the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) was prioritizing resistance to ICE over contract needs at a time when their health insurance and livelihoods are at stake.
At the beginning of the session, which was led by attorney Leemah Nasrati, the DSA group invoked left-wing agitator Alex Pretti, the Democrats’ newly minted martyr, by noting to union members that he was also a nurse.
According to the Post, “The main thrust of their program — which Nasrati said she also presented to doctors and nurses at Elmhurst Hospital — was to inform participants of ICE’s legal reach, how to identify ICE agents, stymie them and film interactions.”
“What is ICE and what the f**k are they doing?” Nasrati asked, denigrating the agency, which was formed in 2003. “It is younger than the cinematic masterpiece ‘Shrek’,” which was released in 2001.”
“ICE is not inevitable. Most, if not all of us, have lived in a world without ICE,” she told the nurses.
She was joined by NYC Council employee Dominic Schlossberg, a DSA trainer who trashed ICE while instructing the nurses about how to identify officers who may not be wearing a badge.
He noted that ICE agents wear plain clothes and may or may not have a badge on their chest.
“Other than that, they look like they only do chest and abs,” Schlossberg said, according to the outlet. “They never do leg day. It’s reasonable to think if you see someone on the street who looks like they are ‘roided up, it could be an ICE agent.”
During his spiel, Nasrati jumped in to say that she was “jealous” that only Schlossberg could see the reactions and messages from the hostage audience.
“I want to see how many people are saying, ‘F—k ICE’,” she gleefully said, according to the Post.
The attendance at the Zoom session, which was vaguely billed as a “strike briefing,” had dwindled to 400 before it wrapped up.
Nasrati also referred to protesters who accosted ICE in November 2025 for “trying to intervene,” and that the “NYPD will put up barricades to make it easier for ICE.”
“It’s better to assume the NYPD is not trustworthy in general, but certainly on [cooperating with ICE],” she told the striking nurses.
“Sources said many of the nurses on the call were outraged by political organizers being brought in who disparaged the NYPD — which has been supportive of them,” the Post reported.
“Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani’s win as the next mayor of New York City is a win for the working class. New Yorkers achieved the most monumental electoral victory for the US socialist movement in the last century — despite the millions of dollars invested to stop us,” the DSA crowed in a press release after Mamdani’s big win in last November’s mayoral election that put a “communist lunatic” in charge of America’s financial capital.
The group has been “mustering an army of more than 4,000 anti-ICE activists” to bring Minneapolis tactics to the Big Apple, the New York Post reported earlier this month.
