Man accused of killing 5 women in horrific car crash while fleeing cops is son of expelled Dem Rep

Lax progressive policies were at the center of a hit-and-run crash that killed five young women in Minnesota as an expelled state representative’s son, released early from a California prison, now faces murder charges.

On Monday, 27-year-old Derrick John Thompson was arrested and booked into Hennepin County Jail as the suspect responsible for a car crash Friday that took the lives of five women preparing to attend a wedding the following day.

According to reports, Thomspon, the son of expelled state representative and BLM activist John Thompson, was being pursued by a Minnesota State Police trooper while traveling around 100 mph in a 55 mph zone when he shot through a red light colliding with the victims’ vehicle.

The crash, after which Thompson was said to have fled on foot, took the lives of Sabiriin Ali, 17; Sahra Gesaade, 20; Salma Abdikadir, 20; Sagal Hersi, 19; and Siham Adam, 19.

Making matters worse, having been convicted and sentenced to eight years of incarceration in California for a 2018 hit-and-run that grievously injured the victim, the suspect had inexplicably been released with more than five years unserved.

According to Santa Barbara District Attorney’s Office representative’s statement to Fox News Digital, “Mr. Thompson received 577 days credit (for the time he spent in custody pending disposition) at the time of sentencing. Based on the fact that he was sentenced to a violent felony statutorily the defendant would have been required to serve 85% of his time, meaning he would have had close to 5.5 years left to serve from the time of sentencing.”

“However, CA proposition 57 (passed in 2016) changed potential credits calculations and gave CDCR wide latitude to award additional custody credits, as well as, early parole opportunities,” the representative added without the ability to comment further on the specifics of Thompson’s release as details were not available to the public.

“This is certainly a terrible heart wrenching story and our hearts go out to the families of the five young women who lost their lives,” noted the representative.

The suspect’s father had been expelled only months after being elected to office following the release of bodycam footage from the St. Paul Police Department that showed him accusing an officer of pulling him over for “driving while black.”

“You profiled me because you looked me dead in the face and I got a ticket for driving while black. You pulled me over because you saw a black face in this car, brother,” the elder Thompson accused. “There’s no way in hell I’m taking off with you behind me. … You looked in this car and busted a U-turn and got behind my car and that’s the reason.”

Despite his claims, the representative had been pulled over because he didn’t have a front license plate and after a review of his records, it was determined he was driving with a suspended Wisconsin driver’s license and his provided address was not in his district. Therefore, a letter from the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association asserted he had either “defrauded the state of Wisconsin” or defrauded his Minnesota “constituents.”

The senior Thompson, who had earned endorsements from Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Gov. Tim Walz had previously made a reputation for himself protesting outside Minneapolis Police Department Lt. Bob Kroll’s home where he called the officer a “f*cking Klansman” and beat an effigy of the man and his wife.

According to Fox News, prior to his Monday arrest, the younger Thompson had been convicted at least six times prior, including for a drug-related felony and a firearms charge. At the time of the 2018 hit-and-run accident, officers had found 17.6 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle and over $20,000 in cash.
