Man ends up in cuffs after writing ‘how about me’ on police dept. ‘most-wanted’ Facebook post

A Georgia man’s poorly thought-out attempt to be funny when he responded to a police department’s “most wanted” list of criminals on Facebook badly backfired, ending up with him in a pair of handcuffs after the cops noticed that he had multiple outstanding warrants.

Last week, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office posted the latest update to its top ten most wanted list on Facebook, writing “The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office Most Wanted list will be updated as often as criminals are apprehended or new suspects emerge. Check our website for additions to the list and for captured updates.”

“If you have information regarding this Most Wanted list, please call RCSO Investigator Dunn at 770-278-8183 or email him at [email protected]. To make an anonymous tip, please call our Anonymous Tip Line at 770-278-8188. If you have seen any of these people please call the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office. We need your help,” along with mugshots of the November honorees.

One mug that wasn’t on the picture was Christopher Spaulding, a wiseacre who had little understanding of how social media is now constantly monitored by law enforcement and had the genius idea of responding, “How about me” in the comments section, a remark that was quickly noticed by Rockdale Police.

“Christopher Spaulding you are correct you have two warrants, we are on the way,” the cops wrote.

In another Facebook post – this one featuring a picture of the cuffed Spaulding who was NOT laughing – the police thanked him for the assistance.

“We appreciate you for your assistance in your capture!” The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office wrote. “Special thanks to our Fugitive Unit for being active and efficiently apprehending Mr. Spaulding who has 2 warrants for Felony Violation of Probation.”

“Our Top 10 is compiled based off of the severity of the charges only. By not being on this list does not mean our Fugitive Unit is not looking for you if you have an active warrant. If you have any information or would like to know if you have a warrant please contact Investigator Dunn at 770-278-8183 or [email protected],” the RCSO added.

The reaction to Spaulding’s ratting himself out drew a predictable response.

One Facebook user wrote, “Hilarious! Publicly embarrassing a special needs person. Stay classy you guys!”

“When it’s winter and you’re tired of paying bills, rent and buying groceries…..,” wrote another.

Additional responses from Facebook users:

“I see what you did there with all these high grocery prices and cost of living. Man will get 3 hots and a cot for FREE.”

“You got your wish. Merry Christmas.”

“Wow!! Now if the others would do this too. One for the record books for sure.”

Another user who claimed to know Spaulding posted her account, “To set the record straight for all these negative comments is uncalled for. He is NOT a homeless person nor does he do drugs he doesn’t even drink alcohol. Please people know your facts before judging someone. He lives in my home and that’s where they picked him up at. For your information he rented a car and didn’t take it back and they pulled him over and locked him up then he was put on probation and he did not report . And the way they swamped my home was very uncalled for and I will be getting to the bottom of that. That’s in the works. He is no threat to others as he has lived in my home on and off for more than 15 years. He does have some disabilities and it’s ashamed people are quick to judge others by the cover of a book. That’s what’s wrong with the world today.. ”

“So those who are quick to judge I’m going to be praying for you. And am I saying he did the right thing? No absolutely not but people learn from their mistakes. He’s not out here robbing, killing or breaking In peoples houses. So that being said they need to focus more and put their all into people in that nature not someone who just violated their probation and is no threat to others. Just wanted make this clear he is loved by many we took him in 15 years ago he has NO family at all so instead of people putting him down maybe find yourself trying to build someone up we would live in a better place. Just know this could be your child, brother, father ext one day and pray they wouldn’t be judged and criticized as this. I’ve stated my opinion and yes everyone has their own opinions but please don’t speak negatively on someone or something you know NOTHING about. Have a BLESSED day to you all,” wrote Facebook user Paula Allamon.
