Maria Bartiromo goes off on New York Democrats over bill targeting ‘mother’ and ‘father’

Fox News host Maria Bartiromo ripped Democrats in New York for a “disgusting” move to replace the legal terms “mother” and “father” in state laws.

Speaking with guest, Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY), on “Sunday Morning Futures,” the host delivered a fiery reaction to the controversial bill, which was passed by the state Senate and is headed to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s (D) desk.

“I saw that, Oh my God!” Bartiromo exclaimed after Tenney brought up the bill that seeks to replace “mother” and “father” with terms like “gestating parent” and “non-gestating parent.”

“We’re not supposed to say mother and father now?” she continued. “That’s disgusting! Okay? That is disgusting! What a mother goes through, what a woman goes through to have a child, and to raise that child, and parents – that now we have to take that away from them, calling them mother and father?”

Tenney called it an “absurdity,” adding that Democrats are so “off the rails” that New Yorkers are escaping to red states like Florida, “where there’s freedom and common sense.”

Senate Bill S9316 awaits the signature of Democrat Gov. Hochul, who said, “I have until the end of the year to review them and make a decision, so I won’t be commenting on pending legislation.”

According to WRGB:

The legislation would replace gender-specific terms like “mother,” “father,” and “paternity” used in places like family court with terms like “parentage,” “gestating parent,” and “non-gestating parent.”

The bill aims to make custody law more inclusive for LGBTQ+ parents and families who use assisted reproduction or surrogacy.

Democratic lawmakers argue it will help ensure parental rights apply equally to any legal parent, regardless of gender or whether they gave birth.

“The party that can’t define a woman is now rewriting New York law to erase mothers and fathers. Only in Albany could ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ become too controversial,” Tenney wrote on X last week.

Republican nominee for governor of New York, Bruce Blakeman, also slammed the “insanity” of Democrats.

“In Kathy Hochul’s New York, ‘mom’ is now defined as ‘gestating parent,’” he wrote on X. “Not when I’m Governor! I’ll stand up for moms and dads against this insanity.”
