Martha Stewart is ‘distressed’ and apologizing for her Halloween costume that offended people

Martha Stewart is apologizing for her Halloween costume after apparently offending social media users.

Halloween is a time for people to get dressed up and have fun, but the television personality scored herself some backlash with her choice of costume this year. According to a now-deleted Instagram post, Stewart dressed up as a homeless person with a dirty face, torn and oversized clothes, and a clipboard bearing the phrase “I am hungry help me!!”

The post quickly came down, and Stewart issued something resembling an apology to Page Six, assuring anyone offended how seriously she takes homelessness.

“I am distressed that my Halloween costume yesterday, which was intended to bring more awareness to the very serious subject of homelessness, has offended people, which was never my intention,” she told the outlet on Sunday. “Homelessness continues to remain one of America’s greatest challenges and ongoing crises, something that I care deeply about and I have spent a significant amount of time and effort supporting charities that combat this ongoing social epidemic.”

She concluded by saying she is “committed to continuing to make a difference.”
