Mary Peltola accused of using N-word as controversy follows AOC-backed candidate

Renewed scrutiny amid a ballot scandal found alleged past remarks directed at staffers surfacing once more for Alaska’s Squad-backed Senate nominee.

At the same time that Democrats are climbing over one another to disavow one of their own for backing a Republican over an Islamist with big-dollar supporters accused of antisemitism, the once-cancelable offense of alleged slurs appeared to be getting a pass. Such was the case in Alaska, where former Rep. Mary Peltola continued to earn financial support from New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez despite accusations that the Senate hopeful has said “n*****” and “f*gg*t.”

In October, the Alaska Landmine cited an anonymous former staffer to Peltola as it reported, “She said, ‘I can’t believe that n—-r,” referring to former Anchorage NAACP president Ed Wesley, a U.S. Army veteran who promoted the dinner that Peltola’s campaign reportedly spent $8,000 on for tables.

The allegation was concerning an October 2024 dinner honoring black soldiers while she was running her failed re-election campaign. The then-congresswoman also allegedly called Wesley a “scammer ” as promises to fill the three tables for $2,500 a piece went unfulfilled.

Additionally, The New York Times cited nine former aides in a September report where Peltola was also accused of using terms like “retard” and the homosexual slur “f*gg*t” when addressing her own staffers. She was also alleged to have pushed a male staffer.

Meanwhile, in addition to the Department of Justice issuing dozens of subpoenas and Republican Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy ordering his own state-level investigation as to whether or not Peltola’s campaign and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) committed “conspiracy to undermine the integrity of the electoral process,” Ocasio-Cortez, who endorsed Peltola in January, still reportedly transferred $150,000 to the Alaska Democratic Party in support of the wannabe Senator’s campaign on Friday.

Responding to the report, Peltola’s campaign told the Landmine, “This is an outright lie published by a right-wing gossip blogger — who is currently being sued for defamation — as part of a smear campaign driven by an unstable, disgruntled former staffer who was fired.”

“Mary would never use this word, which is a vile slur with a painful, hateful history,” the statement added as the outlet responded, “The Landmine sued Republican [Gov. Mike Dunleavy (R)] in 2020 for access to press conferences after being banned. We won in federal court. Mary Peltola came on our podcast in 2023. Mary Peltola’s campaign purchased ads on our website in 2024. The defamation suit she mentions is frivolous. It was filed nearly a year ago and the person who filed it is representing herself. A motion to dismiss the case was heard in July. We are awaiting a ruling from a judge.”

Likewise, Wesley insisted that, having known Peltola for five years, he “never heard her use that word nor have I heard anyone accuse her of using that word.”

He further contended, “In February 2026, her campaign sponsored an Anchorage Museum event honoring ten Black Alaska history makers with $5,000 and later invited me to appear in its veterans ad. That does not match the claim that she believed I had scammed her.”

Over the same weekend that saw Democrats turn on Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens for endorsing Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers over Abdul El-Sayed, syndicated radio host Mark Levin commented, “It’s a historical fact that Marxists not only hate Jews but Black people. Much like Fascists and Islamists.”
