Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey joined members of his city’s Somali community as they celebrated their homeland’s Independence Day over the weekend.
Frey was reelected last year partly by exploiting hostilities between two Somali tribal factions, and he took to the stage on Saturday, waving a miniature version of the East African nation’s flag and dancing when he wasn’t engaging in the sort of demagogic rhetoric that has put targets on the backs of federal immigration enforcement officers.
Happy Somali Independence Day!

“Through the most difficult of times and through Operation Metro surge, we all saw that they tried to come for some of us,” the Democrat mayor told members of the Somali diaspora, referring to the Trump administration’s Twin Cities crackdown. “And when that happens, we say that you’re coming for all of us.”
“In Minneapolis, we loved our neighbors. In Minneapolis, we do not see you as immigrants. We see you as our family,” Frey added. “You are our brothers. You’re our sisters. You have done so much for this incredible city, and for that, we stand with you.”
During the unrest in Minneapolis after two left-wing miscreants were killed during clashes with immigration enforcement agents earlier this year, Mayor Frey did little to dial down the tensions, telling Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to “get the f**k out” of Minneapolis.
The mayor’s appearance at the festivities comes amid continuing investigations into the rampant fraud by Somali swindlers that took place under the nose of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, much of it involving the stealing of money intended to feed hungry children through a COVID-era program.
Frey’s city has been dubbed by some as “Little Mogadishu” for its massive Somali population that has been imported over the last few decades, a political force that he has bent over backwards to pander to, with one example being his wolfing down a plate of ethnic slop last year.

“Here in Minnesota, home to one of the largest Somali communities in the United States, we celebrate the resilience, culture, and leadership that continue to enrich our city and community,” Frey wrote in a post to X on Saturday.
Earlier this month, the House Oversight Committee released its report on the rampant fraud in social services programs that occurred on Walz’s watch despite warnings that taxpayers were being robbed.
“Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison are responsible for one of the most stunning oversight failures this Committee has ever examined. Today’s report is the culmination of months of investigative work and reveals hard evidence showing how the Walz Administration failed to stop widespread fraud, allowing criminals to enrich themselves at the expense of American taxpayers. Billions of dollars were stolen because Minnesota state leaders turned a blind eye to rampant fraud and retaliated against state employees who dared to raise concerns,” Oversight Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) said in a statement.
The scandal involving the Feeding Our Future nonprofit, among others, was so immense that even mainstream media had to cover it, with one federal prosecutor branding it as “industrial-scale fraud” and President Donald J. Trump calling Minnesota “a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity.”
