Megyn Kelly has some advice for Tucker: ‘Let Fox take him to court’

Popular conservative commentator, Megyn Kelly has urged former Fox News host Tucker Carlson to void his contract and go berserk mode on the network.

“Tucker should walk away & forfeit the pay. Let Fox take him to court over the sole issue of silencing him for the rest of the election season (!)-the man they fired & smeared relentlessly while he stayed silent. See how their dwindling audience repays them for that,” she tweeted Friday.

She posted the tweet in response to a report from Brian Stelter (formerly with CNN) revealing that, according to the contract, Fox News just has to pay Carlson — they aren’t obliged to “play” his content on air anymore.

“Carlson is subject to a ‘pay or play’ clause, which means Fox doesn’t have to ‘play’ him on air, they just have to pay him for the remainder of his contract,” Stelter noted.

All this comes following the release of a bombshell report from The New York Times revealing that a battle is beginning to brew between Fox News and Carlson over the terms of the contract.

“Tucker Carlson is making it clear to people close to him that he would like to be back on the air somewhere soon. But he first needs Fox News to agree to a deal that would allow him to work elsewhere,” the Times reported.

The problem is Carlson’s contract runs until January 2025, meaning that — for the time being — he may not appear anywhere else. But on the other hand, were Fox News to prematurely release him from his contract — meaning no pay, as Kelly had insinuated — then he’d be able to accept any number of offers to work elsewhere.

As previously reported, several networks have expressed great interest in him, including Newsmax.

Last month, several sources revealed that “the news channel is doing everything it can to sweeten the deal for Tucker to come on board — including floating the idea of letting him program the whole channel, not just his own show,” as reported by TMZ.

“That would be a pretty enticing deal point … in addition to having his own primetime show, Tucker would have a say over what shows lead into and out of his show, which can be key in achieving bigger TV ratings,” the report continued.

Now, to be clear, the sources said Newsmax hasn’t actually offered Carlson a job yet, since his Fox News contract is still active for the time being. But they have made it clear to “people around him” that they’re willing to give him the reins of the ship.

According to TMZ, NewsNation is also interested in Carlson, as well as in just-ousted CNN talking head Don Lemon.

Dovetailing back to Kelly’s tweet, note how she accused Fox News of “relentlessly” smearing Carlson.

The remark was likely in reference to a slew of previously unseen, behind-the-scenes Fox News clips showing Carlson speaking candidly, with the assumption that he wasn’t being recorded at the time.

Media Matters, a left-wing propaganda group, has been releasing the clips since his termination. The irony is that the propaganda group has been sharing the clips with the intent to harm the former Fox News host’s reputation. But instead, the clips have made him even more endearing to his fans.

Some believe Media Matters obtained the footage directly from Fox News, which critics say is trying to damage Carlson to make him unhirable. However, on Friday the network sent a cease-and-desist letter to Media Matters demanding they stop leaking the footage.

“We write on behalf of FOX Corporation to clarify any misunderstandings Media Matters may have had regarding previously unaired footage that Media Matters has published in a series of articles headlined ‘FOXLEAKS.’ That unaired footage is FOX’s confidential intellectual property; FOX did not consent to its distribution or publication; and FOX does not consent to its further distribution or publication,” the letter reads.

“This proprietary material was given to you without FOX’s authorization. FOX demands that Media Matters cease and desist from distribution, publication, and misuse of Fox’s misappropriated proprietary footage, which you are now on notice was unlawfully obtained. We reserve all rights and remedies,” it continues.

And so it’s still unclear how exactly Media Matters got hold of the Fox News clips since the network itself appears to not be responsible.
