Megyn Kelly seems convinced that former first lady Michelle Obama is mulling a possible 2024 presidential run — should President Biden be dispatched.
The ex-Fox News host addressed the issue on her podcast while speaking with Victor Davis Hanson, author of the forthcoming book “The End of Everything.” She set up her thoughts on a possible run by pointing out that Barack Obama “went and spoke with Biden over the weekend saying the direction of the campaign is not right.”
“Enter Michelle Obama,” she then said. “All the speculation about whether Biden can make it — and he got lost even at the last event he was wandering around on the stage when he made his January 6th remarks. [Jill] Biden had to save him.”
Kelly proceeded to highlight Michelle Obama’s appearance on the On Purpose podcast.
“Michelle Obama is on this popular podcast, though I’ve never heard of it, but apparently it is popular with this guy,” she said. “She has nothing to promote, she has no book, she has no event, so that means she called them and said, ‘I have something to say.'”
“And she very clearly has something to say,” Kelly continued. “The only question is why is she’s saying it? To help Joe Biden or to help herself, to lay the foundation for her emergence on the national scene in some political way.”
She played a clip of the former first lady saying fears about the 2024 election keep her up at night: “What’s going to happen in this next election? I am terrified about what could possibly happen. Because our leaders matter.”
“Number one, all the things she’s talking about to kick it off are about rhetoric. ‘Who speaks for us? Who has the bully pulpit?’ That’s all her husband did,” Kelly observed. “That’s all he had. He was a talented orator… so no wonder she’s touting that as like the thing we need in a president.”
Suggesting that no one cares about that, Kelly insisted, “[T]hat’s not really what we’re electing in a president, we’d really like policies that make sense.”
“And then our second point, ‘a government does everything’. ‘They do it all, everything.’ That’s what we need. That’s gonna be her platform,” she added.
As for Michelle Obama’s chances, Kelly admitted that it would be a “whole new ballgame” if she becomes a candidate.
“I do think she’s a powerful Democratic weapon, but she wasn’t powerful enough to stop Trump in 2016,” she said. “It’s not like she stayed quiet then. She was very clearly against him… Didn’t work.”
“Whether it works this time as a pundit, I remain skeptical,” she continued. “But if she comes out as a candidate, it’s a whole new ballgame because there’s no question she’s more talented than Joe Biden is politically. No question.”
