Megyn Kelly flunked a disruptive leftist student who tried to blame President Donald J. Trump for the assassination of Charlie Kirk during a Wednesday Turning Point USA debate at Virginia Tech University.
The conservative podcaster was hosting the debate, the second since the murder of the organization’s founder, and after taking the stage, was confronted by the misinformed student who was clearly looking to create a “gotcha” moment for social media that could be used by Democrats and the media for their propaganda.
“I want to know why you support a president who contributes to the rhetoric that got your friend Charlie killed,” the young man asked. “You saw his rally recently, he said, ‘I hate my enemies’… Stephen Miller said similar things. How can you support him when he contributed to what got Charlie killed?”

“What you said is not true,” Kelly responded, only to have the troublemaker shoot back that “7o percent of political violence is committed by Republicans,” citing a Justice Department document from the Biden administration, a dark era when federal law enforcement was weaponized against Trump supporters.
“Look it up!” he shouted. “The DOJ just pulled it..DOJ just pulled the study from their website because they’re delusional.”
“That’s not true because… once you pull the crazies out of there, it is overwhelmingly left-wing violence,” Kelly said as the disruptive individual talked over her, encouraging the audience to Google the now archived study that will now be used by bad actors to gaslight Americans over the real problem, left-wing domestic terrorism.
“First of all, let me take on the first premise of your question, that it was President Trump’s rhetoric that led to an assassin killing our friend Charlie Kirk,” Kelly shot back. “That’s a blatant lie, it’s a defamatory blaspheme, and it’s inappropriate in this setting.”
The leftist infiltrator then attempted to claim that Kelly mischaracterized his question. “That’s not what I said,” he protested.
“Yes, it is,” she called him out as the young man defended his question. “No, I said he contributed to the political atmosphere, the, the, the tension,” he stammered.
“Well, then you have no point. Then your point is utterly empty. Contributing to the atmosphere… let’s just make clear, let’s just make clear. This guy was motivated by leftist ideology,” Kelly said as cheers erupted from the crowd. “We know it from the bullet casings, we know it from the Utah governor, we know it from his own mother. Yes, we do. Let’s be really clear on that.”
After being smacked in the face by the truth, the student pivoted.
“Let’s say this guy’s a leftist,” he replied, his voice beginning to crack, “even if that’s true, does that make it okay for the sitting president of the United States to incite violence against liberals?”
“The president of the United States has not [incited] violence against liberals,” Kelly stated. “The president of the United States made a joke at the Charlie Kirk memorial, which was funny and self-deprecating. It was on the heels of Erika Kirk saying she, in an extraordinary moment, forgave her husband’s killer.”
The student again tried to interrupt, but Kelly wasn’t having it.
“Let me finish,” she said, to more cheers from the audience. “And then President Trump got up and, making a joke, playing off of what Erika said, he said, ‘We disagree. I need to do better, Erika’s gonna try to convince me, but I’m in a different place,’ and that’s completely normal for a politician to be thinking about his political fights.”
“And by the way, Trump has every right to loathe his enemies. They tried to put him in jail for the rest of his life,” Kelly said, a reminder that the same DOJ that posted the dubious study unleashed its underhanded prosecutor, Jack Smith, on Trump. “They tried to bankrupt him. They tried to put his family in jail, and they tried to kill him.”
“Rightfully so, he’s a criminal,” the student shouted, badly losing the argument as he thanked Kelly for her time before slinking off.
