Megyn Kelly: Trump has lost ‘multiple steps,’ not as ‘mentally sharp’ as 2016

Prominent conservative commentator Megyn Kelly believes that former President Donald Trump, 77, is no longer at his A-game.

Speaking on Friday with fellow right-wing commentator Glenn Beck about the fourth GOP presidential primary debate that she moderated, she was adamant that the Trump of 2023 isn’t the same Trump seen years ago in 2015 and 2016.

“There’s no question Trump has lost a step or multiple steps,” she said. “He is confusing Joe Biden for [Barack] Obama. I know he’s now saying he intentionally did that, [but] go back and look at the clips. It wasn’t intentional.”

“The reference about how somebody is going to get us into World War II, confusing countries, confusing cities where he is, and it’s happening more and more,” she added.

This Biden/Obama mixup has in fact happened multiple times.

“Former President Donald Trump mixed up two of his political nemeses, President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama, for at least the seventh time in recent months Saturday—the latest in a series of gaffes by the 77-year-old former president that’s made him the target of a line of attack typically used against the 80-year-old president,” Forbes reported in early November.

That said, the former president and his supporters claim he purposefully says “Obama” instead of “Biden” to emphasize his belief that former President Barack Obama is pulling the strings at the White House, not current President Joe Biden.

Continuing her remarks, Kelly stressed that, despite Trump’s superhuman ways, he is ultimately a mortal — an elderly one.

“This is what happens when you’re 77-years-old. Trump seems inhuman, but he’s not inhuman. He’s a human. He’s a man,” she said.

“DeSantis’ line about ‘Father Time spares no one,’ was a good one. So, look, if it’s between Trump and Biden, I don’t think there’s any question who’s more fit and more capable. But are we really going to pretend that Donald Trump is just as vibrant and mentally sharp as he was in ’16?” she continued.

It appears Trump did not appreciate her critique. In a Truth Social post published just after midnight Friday evening, Saturday morning, he claimed she was the “biggest loser” of the fourth GOP presidential primary debate.

“The biggest loser was Megyn Kelly, what the hell happened to her? She has lost whatever she once had, which wasn’t very much. Some things never change!” he wrote.

The irony is that Beck argued the very exact opposite point the morning after the debate.

“I think the real winner last night out of all of them was Megyn Kelly,” he said. “She was really, really good. … She was the winner. She held everybody’s feet to the fire. She asked tough questions. She was fair. She told people, ‘Shut up, nobody can hear you’ when they were talking over each other and it ended it. I mean, I thought she was really, really good.”

In an additional post, Trump took an indirect shot at Kelly, writing, “I never confused Crooked Joe Biden with Barack Obama, except in the form of a sarcastic joke, which the Fake News knows and fully understands. Sarcasm is a very dangerous thing for me to use!!!”

The former president’s supporters have also been on the attack, plastering Kelly on X with criticism for her “stupid” remarks.
