First Lady Melania Trump raised eyebrows with an answer about growing up under communism.

Mrs. Trump made the statement while discussing her mission to rescue Ukrainian children kidnapped by Russia on “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday.

“Madam First Lady, what is your relationship with these other world leaders’ wives who are there? You’ve been able to use your power as First Lady differently than many other First Ladies,” Fox host Lawrence Jones said.

“You’ve reached out to Putin to get the Ukrainian children back home. What is something like that? Who do you talk to, who do you work with behind the scenes to accomplish something like that?”

The first lady said she has a “direct channel” with Russia and Ukraine.

“My representative is working on that, and we are working on another reunification,” Trump responded. “This is ongoing, and we want to reunite as many children as possible — that’s my focus as well. What they’re going through is heartbreaking, and there’s nothing better to see than a child reunited with a parent.”

The conversation took a bit of a turn when co-host Brian Kilmeade brought up Trump’s childhood under communism.

“Why is it that Eastern Europeans like yourself fully understand the gift of freedom and liberty better than Western Europeans? And sometimes better than Americans? What is it about how you grew up?” Kilmeade asked.

“I grew up under communism, and actually, I didn’t miss anything,” the fist lady responded. “I feel I had a very beautiful childhood, and my parents provided a beautiful life for my family,” she said before adding a bit of clarification.

“But yes, there are certain things you need to be aware of, and you watch over what you do — it’s not as free as here in the United States. Now it’s a different time, but when I was growing up, it was not,” she insisted.

The left is seizing on the clip, but one X user claimed to identify with where the first lady was coming from.

I agree with her 💯, because I grew up in the same country around the same time as her. It was actually beautiful, and lot more free than what my kids have now growing up in Florida. My family had vacations twice a year, winter’s skiing in the mountains and summers on Adriatic.
