Former President Donald J. Trump will have one less social media company to worry about when it comes to election interference.
On Friday, Meta announced that it will remove restrictions on Trump’s accounts on Facebook and Instagram when he’s officially nominated at next week’s Republican National Convention which kicks off Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
“With the party conventions taking place shortly, including the Republican convention next week, the candidates for President of the United States will soon be formally nominated. In assessing our responsibility to allow political expression, we believe that the American people should be able to hear from the nominees for President on the same basis. As a result, former President Trump, as the nominee of the Republican Party, will no longer be subject to the heightened suspension penalties,” the tech giant said in a statement.

“In reaching this conclusion, we also considered that these penalties were a response to extreme and extraordinary circumstances, and have not had to be deployed. All US Presidential candidates remain subject to the same Community Standards as all Facebook and Instagram users, including those policies designed to prevent hate speech and incitement to violence,” the statement read.
Meta’s change of heart comes days after a white-hot post by Trump on his Truth Social platform in which he rained fire on Democrats and their stooges, urging House Republicans to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act that would ensure that only U.S. citizens get to vote.
At the end of the post, Trump specifically singled out “ZUCKERBUCKS,” meaning the Facebook founder whose money underwrote Democrat shenanigans in the controversial 2020 election.

“The Dems can’t win on their policies, the only way they can win is to CHEAT,” Trump wrote. “They do it at every level of government, and they do it well. That’s how they get an incapacitated moron like Joe Biden elected. Get tough RNC (Michael W!), Speaker Johnson, and all State and Local Republican politicians. The Justice Department is CORRUPT and won’t do a thing to help. They have no shame! All I can say is that if I’m elected President, we will pursue Election Fraudsters at levels never seen before, and they will be sent to prison for long periods of time. We already know who you are. DON’T DO IT! ZUCKERBUCKS, be careful!”
The timing of the Meta announcement coming just three days after Trump’s post seems to be an indication that some may decide not to push their luck this time around.
In other Friday news involving tech moguls, billionaire X owner Elon Musk has reportedly donated a “sizable amount” to a PAC supporting Trump.
“Musk has contributed to a low-profile group called America PAC, according to people familiar with the matter, who requested anonymity to detail his plans. It’s unclear how much Musk has given, but the people characterized the figure as a sizable amount,” according to Bloomberg.
