Michelle Obama’s lack of presence at two events has social media buzzing after it was confirmed she will not be attending President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Obama, who also failed to attend the funeral of late President Jimmy Carter, has people wondering just what is going on, as it’s unlike the former first lady to shun the spotlight.
“Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former first lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration,” a spokesperson for the family told the Associated Press. They did not go into detail about the reason for the lack of attendance. It is said that a “scheduling conflict” was behind her no-show at Carter’s funeral, while she enjoyed an extended trip to Hawaii.
Michelle has been less publicly active since the passing of her mother in May, though it is unclear if this has prompted her to decline the events.
