A lengthy interview with Piers Morgan found a deported and “ashamed” Milo Yiannopoulos singing a different tune on his past support of President Donald Trump.

Last week, the Department of Homeland Security detailed that the commentator, Kanye West liaison and onetime intern of now-former Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R), had been arrested and deported for overstaying his welcome in the United States. Tuesday on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Yiannopoulos, who once supported the efforts of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, voiced remorse over backing the president he now contends has fallen victim to a “mentally ill heap of crazy.”
After decrying the alleged influence of investigative journalist Laura Loomer, who took credit for initially reporting his illegal presence in America, Yiannopoulos expressed, “To think that the promise and hope and joy and the anticipation of Trump 2016 could, sort of, over the course of 10 years, collapse into this ugly, warmongering, taken as a whole, mentally ill heap of crazy, with some of the most unstable and lunatic people, seemingly directing the president’s actions.”
“If I had any clue that anything remotely like this was even possible, I would never have got involved in supporting Trump in the first place, and I’m very ashamed that I did,” he added.
Throughout the interview, the commentator insisted communications about his work visa were sent to old addresses while also asserting he’d been present in the United States on a green card he’d been renewing every two years based on his civil union with a man.
On his arrest, Yiannopoulos painted a tale of ill treatment from federal law enforcement: “I was put from a detention facility to a correction facility. You know, every three hours, they were sort of trying to keep ahead of my lawyers … no one would tell me anything. I mean, I know it’s designed to be like that, but it was — sure it was humiliating, and it was disorientating, the rest of it — it was physically degrading. It was frightening.”
He further claimed that two ICE agents, who recognized him for his past support of Trump, were averse to processing him and may have even walked off the job.

Meanwhile, Morgan confronted Yiannopolous with his own cheering of ICE with social media posts from as recent as last September. On that, he held to drawing a distinction on the criminals that the government should be deporting.

As for defending himself, he contended that there was no sensible explanation as to why he would overstay his welcome: “I don’t really do the right-wing provocateur thing anymore. I manage lawyers for a living. I’m a pretty organized and together person when I’m not being silly on Twitter. And I’m married to an American. There’s no reason I would take a risk like this. I didn’t need to overstay a visa. There were dozens of companies who could have sponsored me, and I’m married to an American.”
