Missouri GOP counters Dem effort to read pro-trans book to children with ‘Johnny the Walrus’

After Democrats in Missouri read a pro-transgenderism book to kids, Republicans fired back by reading an anti-transgenderism book to them.

The drama began earlier this month when Libs of TikTok published footage to the social media platform X showing Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas and other city officials/council members reading “Introducing Teddy: A Gentle Story about Gender and Friendship” to a camera.

“The LGBTQ book is written for children between the ages of 3 and 6 and focuses on a boy, Errol, and his teddy bear friend, Thomas,” according to The Daily Wire. “In the story, Thomas tells Errol that he feels like a ‘girl teddy,’ and wishes his name was ‘Tilly.'”

“Errol tells Thomas he ‘doesn’t care’ if he’s ‘a girl teddy or a boy teddy. What matters is that you are my friend.’ Thomas then puts his bowtie in his hair because he’s ‘always wanted a bow instead.'”

The video prompted massive outrage, with parents excoriating Democrats for promoting this nonsense to their children.

“The grooming of our children is on full display,” Alexandra Schweitzer, the co-founder of Parents on Patrol in Wisconsin, told The Heartlander.

“This is no longer a progressive, liberal agenda; it is an evil agenda, the slow erosion of parental rights and the government takeover of our children. In other words, the progression of the communist agenda,” she added.

Enter the Missouri Freedom Caucus, whose members decided to not take this slight from Democrats lying down. Instead they fired back by producing their own video of themselves reading “Johnny the Walrus,” an anti-transgender book by conservative commentator Matt Walsh of The Daily Wire.

“‘Johnny the Walrus,’ which was published in April 2022, focuses on a boy who believes he’s a walrus and his mother who goes along with her child’s desired identity, regardless of how crazy it sounds. Walsh said the book teaches children to accept who they are biologically, which is their true self,” according to The Daily Wire.

“Recently, the Kansas City mayor and his goons are reading books to groom children, and we’re here to set the record straight and put a stop to this nonsense,” Republican Missouri state Sen. Rick Brattin says in the beginning of the video. “And we’re going to do this by reading ‘Johnny the Walrus.'”

Unlike the video posted by Libs of TikTok, the video from the Missouri Freedom Caucus attracted nothing but endless praise.

All this comes amid an effort by Missouri Republicans to pass a “parents bill of rights” that would, among other things, prohibit transgender students from using the restroom/locker room of the opposite gender.

“It is a statewide issue that your biological sex matches which locker room and which restroom you’re going into,” state Sen. Nick Schroer said in January, according to the Missouri Independent.

“I know several of the school districts in St. Charles County have addressed it, but there’s still a need,” he added.
