Mob throwing fireworks at cops injures two officers in yet another bloody Chicago weekend

The city of Chicago saw its normal level of violence over the weekend with at least 37 people shot and 7 killed, and the criminal element was feeling rather festive over the bloody July 4 weekend that extends into Monday — meaning another full day to add to the tally.

The Chicago Police Department had its hands full and even came under attack at one point when responding to a call of drag racers blocking a street in the Loop, according to CWB Chicago.

“Crowds of people threw rocks and fireworks at Chicago police officers while others climbed onto occupied CPD squad cars as cops responded to disturbances on the city’s northwest and southwest sides overnight. Two officers received minor injuries, and three patrol cars were damaged,” the outlet reported, citing the CPD.

Upon responding to the scene, an officer had his windshield shattered when it was struck by an object. Someone threw lit fireworks into a CPD patrol car after its doors were opened, with the officer being treated and released for shards of glass in his arm and neck and back pain, according to police. Another officer was injured when hit on the head, neck, and body by flying glass from her shattered windshield.

Par for the course in so many Democrat-run cities, there were no arrests.

Townhall’s Julio Rosas shared video of the mayhem in the streets:

“Towards the end of the video, you can see a firework land on the hood of a CPD vehicle. The vehicle sustained damage, including broken headlights, windshield shattered, and damage to the hood. Officers were inside the vehicle,” Rosas added.

But then, as noted below: “Welcome to Chicago.”

In one heckuva irony, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot held a press conference on Friday to show appreciation for the city’s police officers and remind residents to “say thank you” to cops.

“We need to remember every single day on every single watch, our brave men and women of the Chicago Police Department are out there literally risking their lives for our safety,” Lightfoot said.

Also on Friday, a Chicago police officer was shot multiple times by a convicted felon while responding to a domestic violence call, according to police. The officer is in serious but stable condition.

All of the lawlessness coming after the mayor stood on the stage of a concert last week and screamed into a microphone, “F*ck Clarence Thomas!”
