A Pennsylvania woman was mauled to death by her neighbor’s dogs when she and her young son went to feed the animals while their owner was away.
Kristin Potter, 38, died after being attacked by two of three Great Danes in Centre Township, according to WGAL.
The victim’s young son ran for help as soon as the dogs became aggressive and is not believed to have seen much of the attack.
“He was present at the scene, but I don’t think he was there for much of it,” Perry County Coroner Robert Ressler said of the child. “As soon as he saw the dogs starting to attack his mother, he ran across the road to have his brother call 911.”
The coroner said that emergency responders and police officers were unable to reach the woman due to the dogs aggressiveness, being forced to wait until animal control personnel arrived and tranquilized the dogs.
Her fiancé, Jacob Presley Fickett, posted a tribute to Potter on Facebook: “I can’t believe this. I can’t….. I just want to hold you.”
The two animals involved in the attack were taken to a veterinarian and euthanized — the third dog was present but didn’t take part in the attack. It was reported that the two dogs may have been fighting and when Potter tried to intervene they turned their aggression toward her.
Jennifer Keefer, Kristin’s younger sister, told WGAL that her sibling was loved by everyone.
“Kristin just had a very beautiful personality,” Keefer said. “When you’re around her, you just feel better. When you talk to her, you just feel better. ”
“With all the tragedy that has happened in her life, she still had a high belief in God,” she added. “She was just like that. She felt like there is a reason for everything.”
“She was just loveable to be around. Everyone loved her.”
