Alleging that President Donald Trump will turn the nation into a “pariah,” Democratic lawmakers are lining up to oppose potential American expansionism, including renewed claims of illegal orders.
Ever fond of claiming that the president is guilty of being a “puppet” to Russian President Vladimir Putin, leftists in Congress are falling over themselves to stand in the way of Trump scoring a strategic win against the federation. Specifically, as the commander-in-chief renewed talks toward acquiring Greenland, California Rep. Ted Lieu (D) presented himself as the latest official to urge U.S. military service members to disobey orders.
Captioning a link to a Daily Mail report that suggested Trump had called on “special forces commanders to draw up a plan for the invasion of Greenland,” Lieu, himself a former member of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Air Force Reserves, stated on X, “Dear @usairforce, @USNavy, @USArmy @USMC: Greenland is part of Denmark, a NATO ally. If Trump orders the military to attack Greenland without congressional approval, that would be an illegal order. You will disobey the illegal order. Your oath is to the Constitution, not Trump.”

The congressman’s post came after Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly (D), a participant in the so-called Seditious Six video that avoided specifics in encouraging U.S. service members to stand down from unconstitutional orders, recently faced consequences for his actions when Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced retirement grade determination proceedings had been initiated.
Of the retired U.S. Navy captain, Hegseth said, Captain Kelly’s status as a sitting United States Senator does not exempt him from accountability, and further violations could result in further action.”
Meanwhile, Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine (D) took a different tack in aiming to oppose the president, claiming bipartisan support to preemptively curb any military machinations.
Appearing on CBS News’ “Face the Nation”, host Margaret Brennan reminded Kaine that President Donald Trump, “as recently as Friday, [had] said, I want to make a deal for Greenland the easy way, but if we don’t do it the easy way, we are going to do it the hard way.”
“Is there anything to stop the president from doing it ‘the hard way’, which sounds like military force?” she asked.
“Margaret, I think Congress will stop them, both Democrats and Republicans. This would be disastrous. It wouldn’t just be America First. It wouldn’t just be the end of NATO. It would be America alone,” contended the senator. “If we take our best allies, and Denmark has been an ally for a very long time, and we decide that we have the military ability to seize territory for them, you will see the United States, instead of being the world’s chief diplomat and a leader in the world, you’ll see the United States isolated as a pariah.”
On President Trump’s repeated calls for the U.S. to take control of Greenland, Sen. Tim Kaine says “Congress will stop him, both Democrats and Republicans.”

Contending his stance was bipartisan, Kaine went on, “We will force a vote in the Senate about no U.S. military action in Greenland or Denmark. If we need to, we will get overwhelming bipartisan support that this president is foolish to even suggest this. We’re not gonna do it the hard way, and we’re not gonna do it the easy way either. We’re gonna continue to work with Denmark as a sovereign nation that we’re allied with, and we’re not going to treat them as an adversary or as an enemy.”
