More than a gaffe… Biden brags about time he was vice president during the pandemic

A common concern shared online after President Joe Biden’s latest flub is that the 81-year-old cognitively challenged president has the nuclear codes.

Biden was speaking to attendees at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s (NAACP) Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner in Detroit on Sunday when he claimed he was vice president during the pandemic — his role as vice president ended four years before the pandemic.

“When I was vice president, things were kind of bad during the pandemic… What happened was, Barack said to me, ‘Go to Detroit, and help fix it,'” Biden claimed. “Well the poor mayor — he spent more time with me than he thought he was ever going to have to.”

The response to Biden’s blunder was swift and critical. Talk radio host Clay Travis, founder of Outkick, expressed his disbelief, tweeting, “His brain is mush. I don’t even know what he could be trying to say here.”

This prompted Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) to reply: “Biden has nuclear codes. And he thinks he was VP during the pandemic.”

Interestingly, the White House attempted to clean it up a bit in the transcripts, noting that he should have said “recession.” This effort came as Biden water carriers tried to cover for him by claiming he was referring to the swine flu.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on the social media platform X:
