‘Mr. Pfizer’: Injured NY Jets QB Aaron Rodgers pokes KC’s Travis Kelce for pimping COVID-19 vaxx

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still recovering from his season-ending torn Achilles tendon but that doesn’t mean he’s not up to talking some serious smack.

On Tuesday, the injured player appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” and took a jab at Travis Kelce, the All-Pro tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, after the two teams played Sunday evening, jokingly referring to Kelce as “Mr. Pfizer.”

“Mr. Pfizer, we kinda shut him down a little bit,” Rodgers said, after Kelce was held to just 6 catches for 60 yards. “He didn’t have his crazy impact game, obviously, he didn’t have his yards and stuff.”

The nickname from Rodgers, who was in attendance at the MetLife Stadium game won by the Chiefs 23-20, was in reference to Kelce selling out to pimp the new COVID-19 vaccine in an ad for Pfizer.

Kelce touts the ability to do two things at once in the 30-second spot, pulling up his sleeve to proudly show off a blue bandage after being told by a female narrator that he can get “this season’s COVID-19 shot when you get your flu shot.”

Rodgers drew the scorn of Covidians when he admitted to Joe Rogan in a 2022 interview that he refused to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I’d been ready the entire time for this question and had thought about how I wanted to answer it. And I had come to the conclusion I’m going to say: ‘I’ve been immunized.’ And if there’s a follow-up, then talk about my process,” Rodgers said at the time.

“But, I thought there’s a possibility that I say ‘I’m immunized,’ maybe they understand what that means, maybe they don’t. Maybe, they follow up. They didn’t follow up. So then I go the season them thinking – some of them – that I was vaccinated,” he added.

Somewhat ironically, as McAfee pointed out, Jets owner Woody Johnson is the heir to the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical fortune.
