Demonstrating divisive punditry at its finest, one MSNBC guest expressed the fate he’d like to befall former President Donald Trump with a vile comparison of Jan. 6 to 9/11.

Another prime example of Trump Derangement Syndrome was provided Friday by SiriusXM host and supposed comedian Dean Obeidallah, this time likening the president to infamous terrorist Osama bin Laden while voicing his desire to see the former head of state die in a prison cell.
From the leftist’s perspective, the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, essentially a cross between disorderly trespassing and a sightseeing tour, equated to the worst attack on American soil in history that took the lives 0f nearly 3,000 victims in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, with untold casualties still racking up more than 20 years later.
“The idea of pardoning, like we’re gonna move on? Imagine that sentiment after 9/11. Let’s just let bin Laden go. Let’s just move on as a nation,” Obeidallah told Michael Steele filling in for Joy Reid as he reacted to a clip of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis telling Megyn Kelly he would consider pardoning Trump.
“I’m gonna do what’s right for the country,” the 2024 presidential candidate had said. “I don’t think it would be good for the country to have an almost 80-year-old former president go to prison.”
The radio personality’s ramped up rhetoric continued, “We had a terrorist attack on our Capitol. Jan. 6 was an act of domestic terrorism. That’s what FBI Director Christopher Wray testified the attack was — and everybody involved in that attack has to be held accountable.”
“We don’t move on, we hold people accountable so it never happens again. That’s an important point,” Obeidallah continued as he presented his suggested punishment as though it were nonpartisan. “Democrat or Republican, it doesn’t matter. Your president, you attempt a coup, you incite a terrorist attack — you must go to prison and I think you should spend your last days in prison, not be cruel, but as a message to anyone — even a Democratic demagogue in the future — you can’t do this and get away with it because we believe in this democratic republic.”
“And I wish Republicans would join that. Let’s protect our republic and move on and fight over policy,” he added.
The commentator’s position was hardly a onetime take as he routinely posts to social media his opinion that Jan. 6 was a Trump-led terrorist attack. He wrote as recently as Sunday morning, “It’s now TWO YEARS and 204 days since Donald Trump’s Jan 6 terrorist attack. In any other first world country, he’d already be charged. Instead, Trump is running for President where he’s spewing more lies to delegitimize our democracy. Long past time to Indict trump for Jan 6!”

Recently, Obeidallah appeared to welcome the notion from guest MSNBC analyst Glenn Kirschner that Trump should be “ordered detained pending trial” because “the law provides that when there’s clear and convincing evidence that a defendant pending trial presents a danger to the community, he’s supposed to be detained…pending trial.”
“That’s the law,” Kirschner said. “Everyone has ignored that when it comes to Donald Trump. And we do it at our peril, as a system as institutions of government, do it at our peril.”
