MSNBC’s Kirschner crows Trump will be convicted and tossed in prison ‘for the rest of his life’

MSNBC legal analyst Glenn Kirschner took great pleasure in the unprecedented indictment of former President Donald J. Trump and this time, he seems confident that the walls have finally closed in on the 2024 GOP frontrunner, gleefully crowing that a conviction and the remainder of his life stuffed into a prison cell are next.

The former federal prosecutor joined Dean Obeidallah on Friday’s edition of “The Dean Obeidallah Show” on SiriusXM where the two hardcore Trump haters broke down the latest developments in the great Trump hunt now that Attorney General Merrick Garland and President Joe Biden have dropped the hammer on the former POTUS via their proxy, Special Counsel Jack Smith.

During the conversation, the host asked point blank, “Does he go to jail?”

“Yes! Has to,” Kirschner responded. “Has to go to jail because there has to be a concrete deterrent for others who are contemplating compromising our national security information, mishandling national defense information, which is what gave rise to the espionage charge, obstructing justice, conspiring to do all of these things.”

“If Donald Trump doesn’t go to prison upon conviction and I predict he will be convicted, then there is no deterrent value to this entire exercise. And by exercise, I mean the criminal investigation, the indictment, and the trial,” he continued. “Think about it. If he’s sentenced to, for example, home detention, that is a sentence to basically stream Netflix and order DoorDash. That’s no kind of punishment. And I think Jack Smith understands that.”

“And I think he will do everything he can to get Donald Trump convicted and ask the judge to send him to prison, probably for the rest of his life,” he said.

Kirschner, who has been predicting such a fate for Trump for years has good reason to feel confident with Smith’s charges falling under the archaic 1917 Espionage Act, a draconian anti-dissent law seldom deployed since the World War-I era when it was ironically mostly used against communists and other leftists until it was dusted off by their modern-day counterparts in the Obama Justice Department to prosecute whistleblowers and reporters.

On Saturday, he called for Trump to be locked up BEFORE he even goes to trial, a blantant violation of the constitutional right to due process that has been rendered all but obsolete under Democrats and their legal foot soldiers who wield tremendous power throughout the judiciary.

“The standard for pre-trial detention is “clear and convincing evidence that the defendant is a flight risk or a danger to the community.” Trump indisputably poses a danger to the community. More so than thousands of others who presently are jailed pending trial,” the MSNBC legal eagle wrote, inferring that an innocent post by Trump on Truth Social about his Tuesday appearance in a Miami courtroom was a call for a bloody uprising.

Perhaps even more disturbing than the indictment itself is the idea that the federal judicial system is riddled with prosecutors who hold the same fascistic views as Kirschner does and if Trump does get locked up, it will never be truly safe for any other Republican in a land where the Putinesque jailing of political opponents will have been normalized.
