MTG moves to censure Ilhan Omar: ‘She’s acting as a foreign agent… she’s not the only one’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has set her sights on Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), demanding that she be censured for comments she made in support of Somalia, claiming she is a “foreign agent.”

She made the move on Thursday, calling her censure legislation to the floor as a privileged resolution. That forces leadership to hold a vote within two legislative days on the issue.

“Today I introduce a censure resolution against Ilhan Omar. And the reason why I did that… now, I’ll just say this. Censure is not going far enough. If it were up to me, we would expel Ilhan Omar and deport her out of the United States. Her comments are outrageous. She’s acting as a foreign agent within our very government,” Greene asserted in a video on X.

“She said, ‘The US government will only do what Somalians in the US tell them to do. They will do what we want and nothing else. They must follow our orders and that is how we will safeguard the interests of Somalia.’ She also said, ‘For as long as I am in Congress, Somalia will never be in danger. Its waters will not be stolen by Ethiopia or others. Sleep in comfort knowing I am here to protect the interests of Somalia from inside the US system,'” she said quoting Omar.

“Ilhan Omar needs to be censured. But censure is not enough. I’m telling you right now, she’s acting as a foreign agent on behalf of a foreign country. Our country is going to be taken over from the inside. She’s not the only one. Look at Joe Biden,” Greene pointed out.

“We’re investigating Joe Biden for his family getting paid millions of dollars for him acting in the interests of other countries and getting rich by it. We’re talking about Ukraine and Burisma. He got a prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, fired in Ukraine and his family took millions of dollars for that. That’s acting in the interests of a foreign country. That’s being a foreign agent inside our government,” she accused.

Greene went on to point out there are numerous others in Congress who have dubious allegiances.

“We can move on. There’s others here like that. Rashida Tlaib. She does everything she can to act in the interests of Hamas over in Gaza. She literally voted to allow Hamas terrorists to come into our country. She made that vote along with Cori Bush. Cori Bush is acting in the interests of terrorists. Rashida Tlaib and Cori Bush are acting in the interests of terrorists,” the congresswoman continued.

“For as long as this continues and we allow people to serve in our government acting as foreign agents, for the interests and for the good of foreign countries and foreign peoples, our country is not safe. Ilhan Omar needs to be censured. I urge my colleagues to vote to censure her. But I also urge my colleagues that we need to join together to stop foreign agents serving in our government in the interests of foreign countries,” she stated.

“We serve the United States of America and that’s it. We serve the American people and no other people. That’s how our country needs to get back on track and that’s the only way we will save our country,” Greene concluded.

When Greene introduced her resolution, she called Omar’s statements “treasonous.”

Greene is also looking to have Omar removed from the Budget Committee and Education the Workforce Committee according to The Hill.

“I would love to expel her; I think she should be deported, I honestly do,” Greene told reporters after she put forth that Omar should be censured.

“Any person that’s been elected to represent the United States government that admits in a speech in public that’s on video — it wasn’t changed, she’s lying when she says that — and she says that she’s representing the interest of a foreign government in her role as the United States representative, she should be expelled and deported,” Greene contended.

“Unfortunately I don’t think we’d have the votes for that, so that’s why I introduced a censure resolution instead,” she commented.

Omar is acting as though she does not care in the least that Greene has moved she should be censured.

“I have nothing to say about the insanity of that woman,” she told The Hill.

Wednesday, Omar said the outrage over her comments was “a manufactured crisis based on an inaccurate translation taken entirely out of context. The attacks being lobbed against me are not only completely false, they are rooted in xenophobia and Islamophobia.”

“As I said in the video – I support a unified Somalia, which aligns with longstanding US policy favoring a one Somalia approach. My stance remains consistent with the goal of a stable and unified Somalia,” she added.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) called for the Ethics Committee to investigate Omar on Wednesday, claiming her recorded remarks showed her “delivering shocking remarks expressing allegiance to the interests of Somalia, the failed state and terrorist stronghold.”

“Congresswoman Omar’s remarks are unbecoming of a United States elected official and a violation of the Code of Official Conduct of the House,” Emmer charged.
